Just 16 weeks to go to the 2015 London Marathon.
Anyone else on countdown?
First day of my training schedule today----hopefully my injury (accident not training related) has healed sufficiently to see me through.
Just need to lose the 1.5 st + that I put on last year as a result of basal cell carcinoma treatment---then I should be ready for the off!!!!!!!!

Go for it, Imp! Wishing you all the best, but I won't be doing it. Might go for the London to Brighton bike ride next September, though.
Can you wear a HUGE flamboyant costume so we can spot you on the telly, please?

I'm afraid I peaked at half marathon a couple of years ago. I am endeavouring to get back into running as part of my fat and fifty campaign

Whoa Imp ! Go go go !! You are awesome !!!!!!!!
Hubby is doing it. Has had a foot injured & been busy with work so starts at zero today but ..... Woke up with chesty cough & didn't make it to work let alone any training. We did take dog out for a fast walk. He might have to walk this time. He has done 2 already but his times were between 5-6 hours & he was hoping for nearer 5 this time.
Isn't this your second marathon ?

Hope your Hubby is fit for training soon cowgirl. Yes, my second, though I am by no means a runner. Took over 7 hours for the first, and have had injuries and illness since, so I am starting again from scratch. Never mind, however we get round, we all get the same medal, and the atmosphere is just great

Exactly & it isn't the only marathon.
I've told him if he is that desperate to run it leave the London marathon & do another later in the year. Milton Keynes is in May for example. But he just loves the atmosphere at London. (He deferred his place last year) He is raising money for Brain Tumour Charity
I read that a marathon is two half marathons & so much more. Boy oh boy so much more.
What is your saying that keeps you going ? Mine was Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better. Not my quote of course.

Oh & another thing. Your medal is the same as the winner isn't it

Post by imp on Jan 6, 2015 20:33:13 GMT
Cowgirl, think the medal is the same, at least, it is the same as the one who comes second!!!
I know exactly what your Hubby means, the atmosphere is so special
My mantra is--I CAN do this.
Thanks, will pm you x

Loadsofbubs try this link www.runengland.orgIf you can find a group near to you they will help you on a couch to 5k with a run walk programme & it's free ! You are fitter than you think. Pushing a buggy plus weight of child is hard work. Let alone when you are chasing them around the park. You are just using a different muscle set.

Hope you don't mind if I report in regularly . I think it might help to keep me on track, knowing that you are watching over me!!!!
End of week one of my training schedule (out 3 times a week)---kindly provided by Virgin marathon organisers---for beginner runners.
Actually almost enjoyable jogging along the seafront this lunch time, now for a shower and healthy lunch

I'm doing a run walk programme cowgirl, but on a treadmill (though the sea front in January sounds lovely after forgetting to turn the heater off in the conservatory for tonights session! I was very warm!). am limited to doing it at home in the evenings or during contact with a tiny bubs in placement becoz I cant dump him with a babysitter that many times a week (and don't have that many babysitting favours either!!), he goes nuts sitting on someone elses knee even if I am sat next to him, is a wee bit clingy bless him! am nearer 6 stone overweight serrakunda! taking it verrrry slow! has been 35 years (or more) since I ran anywhere.
keep up the updates imp, is motivating me too! doing my accountability on facebook (mostly!), but does help to have others know and ask how its going, less chance of slipping off the wagon! (for me anyway!)

Second week completed as per schedule.
Been tough this week, partly my fault as I chose a ridiculously hilly route on Tuesday, then I was out in a gale and hailstorm on Thursday, and a late/long session yesterday which proved to me that my digestive system still goes into overdrive during exercise. The eating/exercise balance has yet to be achieved!!!!
14 weeks today I will be at the start

Good to hear your update. You know the hill work will keep you in good stead especially as the London Marathon is flat. As an experienced marathoner you know this ! I read once that only 1% of the worlds population has run a marathon but I cant find a statistic for those that do more than 1 marathon. Found this though www.statisticbrain.com/marathon-running-statistics/A top notch marathoner did a quicker time doing a run/walk schedule - I think this is the chap www.jeffgalloway.com/training/run-walk/ you might find this interesting if you haven't read it before. So take a break & eat that banana or flap jack or whatever you use. try this too - WARNING rude in a few places theoatmeal.com/comics/marathon_doand if you go off running try this england.shelter.org.uk/get_involved/participate/vertical_rush A marathon running up the Old Natwest Tower London (now called Tower 42) crazy or what !!! Are you planing on a doing a half marathon race as part of your training ? if so which one ? Loadsofbubs - how has your week been ?

Hi cowgirl, thanks for the links. Wish I considered myself an experienced marathoner! Good to read about run walk advice---which is how my training schedule tells me to work---so good to see other endorsements.
Love theoatmeal link, especially the bit about sprinting at the end. Strange isn't it how the body can respond to that last bit of distance from Buck House to the finish line!
I am supposed to fit in a half marathon for my long run at week 11, though there is an alternative plan if that isn't possible. As the only 'half' around here is almost all hills---recognised as one of the most difficult in the country, I won't be doing it!!!!(incidentally, my hill work is reserved for the 'walking' part of my training)
Still feeling positive xx

A week early for you but you could try Milton Keynes in March www.mkrun.co.ukApart from going up & down a limited number of under passes this is flat & a nice shiny medal to boot ! Try this link www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/I did a half marathon near Croydon last March to support a friends newish event. Gives me shivers thinking about the terrain.

I started week 2 of the programme last week which has fewer longer runs (not hugely long, 90 seconds) over the same distance/time. Managed 3/6 on monday and 4/6 by friday. Think there'll be another two weeks of week 2 at least! Nothing as impressive as a half or full marathon, still a long way off 5km even! Doing 2.5 km at the minute but most is walking. But is 2.5k I wasnt doing 2 months ago!

I'm doing a 12 mile endurance ride on March 1st. We're up to two or three 5 mile rides and a 7mile ride this week. Next week we'll do two 7 miles and the 5 miles and increase the speed. Feel a bit of a fraud really as I'm doing nowt of the work ;-)

Week three finished. My longest session to date today---10 min brisk walk, 30 min jog, 10 min walk, 20 min jog, 10 min walk.
Not too bad once I really got into it, though lovely to sit down now.
Cowgirl, one if my problems is that I have commitments most Sundays, so have to book dates really early (ie April 26th) to have a whole day free. I can manage longer sessions from 1.00pm onwards locally/

Week 4 completed, which means that I am quarter of the way to London.
Every 'long' session if getting tougher, but did 90 min this morning---am measuring in time rather than distance by OH estimates distance was between 5 and 6 miles.
Had forgotten that wonderful feeling of having come in very cold, tired and achy, having a really warm shower and snuggling up in my dressing gown with a bowl of hot soup!!!!

Hi Imp
Quarter of the way through eh ? Such a positive way to look at things.
Are you focused enough to have a shower first then the soup ? Or do you have a post training goodie to treat yourself with as you get in the door ?
