I am now continuing 'back to reality' thread on this board as more appropriate. Little Minnow came out of school with newsletter with only his face blocked out of the athletics group photo. I am still in school building when I see this and am up a height. It is also the first night of parents evening. Head smiles at me as I go past and says oh the photos so I ask for quiet word. So we go in to her office and she says she is pleased that she remembered to block out photo? Then shows me activity weekend away photos with son in and says!!!! How sad it is that children in group won't get to see their group photo because young son is in it!!!!! I was speechless for all of a millisecond. She then goes on to say that young son should have absenteed himself!!! He is 9. So have taken advice and will be sending letter to governors and contacting County Hall. Through Every Disabled Child Matters I was on the interviewing panel for the Head of Sen and Head of Vulnerable Children so will be calling in a few favours to put my point across. I cannot believe that any Head in this day or age can be so ignorant of safeguarding matters. If nothing else my elder profoundly disabled son has given me lots of experience in fighting our corner and so I will. What is so scary though is that if her ability to understand the complications of 'just a photo' is so poor how will she understand the complications of being a modern day child of adoption?

Happyone .... I was in a situation yesterday with my new Support worker & kept thinking the exact same thing!!!!
Esty this is simply outrageous!!!!
O.k. Girl go in armed to the teeth...
Chair of governors & official complaint.... County hall yep I guess.... " every child matters Is just still in " ( changing next year I think )
This head clearly is a complete tw0nk & needs a wake up call that will make her sit up & take notice.... Hit her in the disciplinary muscle!!!
I think you did so well just to not do as happy one suggested!!!

As expected class Teacher knows my son inside out and he has no gaps because if he did he'd know. I tried a couple of times to explain what is going on underneath the surface but it definitely wasn't being heard. Will await response to County Hall and then go the way that's needed.

I've just told Little Minnow that I'm not entirely sure his Head teacher is the best Head Teacher in the world. He gets my sarcasm so will know I mean she's carp! The fall out from the weekend away is just hitting big time where what is just 'ramping up the excitement' for most kids is actually truly terrifying for mine. I can see this being a very long process but will get there. It took me 8 years with Big Fish' school to get them to work with me rather than against, but as in most adoption stories we're in it for the long haul! It is unbelievable though how dense and self righteous some people can be. There are a number of support staff who have made supportive noises towards me which is always a sign that everything is not all happy and roses in the school.

An update - County Hall Education eventually spoke to the Head on monday. I went to activity weekend away presentation on tuesday and son had photo with him in group and photo without him went to other kids. Feedback from LA was HT was going to talk to her staff and update their understanding of photos. Whilst at a conference for children with disabilities last week I chatted to two Heads of Service whom I know well. They have now contacted the LAC Education team and after a long chat with them, LAC team, today they are going to approach school to give them some Attachment and a general 'What do you think children go into care for?' training which I may be involved in delivering. Hopefully a result!

Just had another phone call from LAC education team. Even though son adopted from out of county they are going to go in and do attachment training with the whole school. They are an outstanding adoption team so fingers crossed its received well and some learning and understanding is taken on board!
