Just need to blow off some steam about a comment made recently
(in front of my girls) At a play group, Her: what's the age difference between lo1 and lo2? Me:13 months Her: wow (pointing at lo2) was she an accident she doesnt know me or that the gurls are adopted, but surely that can't in anyway be an appropriate thing to say in front of a much beloved, much wanted lo!! Grrrrr

Just wanted to add that I am used to a lot of raised eyebrows at the age gap, and have a standard line in how they keep me on my toes, but it's nice as we can do a lot of the same things etc etc, and it never bothers me, but this seemed really rude for either big or ac

What an insensitive comment to make! I do not understand what makes people think they can talk in front of children as if they were not there. I would have been livid too. Bad enough to make such a comment, but right in front of the kids too. Did you say anything to her?
Well, you know who to avoid now... So sorry, this has happened to you all. xx

I think this woman fits in the category of 'never learn't to filter her thoughts'- i.e what you think and what you say......
Not nice.... :-(

My sibling and I are very close in age and my sibling has a differing eye, skin and hair colour to my parents and I. No one believed that we were related. I completely understand about the rude comments, we continually got them growing up and even do now. It is good that you have a 'response bank' for those rather annoying, rude people.....I particularly like 'Donatella's' anwser.......it's brilliant!

That's my line Donatella and I did use it once to a nosey woman in the park. There is only 10 months between my two. So you are quite restrained Chotimonkey, I obviously like sex even more than you and I do have another adopter friend with 8 months between her two, so go figure that one out! Nosey bovine person

Storing all these up for next week when we bring little man home and I have three with less than 2 1/2 years between tgem... Those previously raised eyebrows will go shooting through the roof!! I akso had my first 'real' children comment on wednesday... when put with a group of friends talking about little man coming home and a friend of a friend asked if I was going to have any real children after... I was going to reply and be flippant and say something about for figments of my imagination they create a huge amount of washing etc, bug to my delight the rest of my friends jumped in and explained why that is completely inappropriate... I've got them well trained

"Well these ones look pretty real to me" said as you walk away from offensive person, is always a good retort. Well done on your friends for sorting said person out.

We went to a family christening last week. Pink had met most of the family prior to it.
My Aunt decided to tell everyone there that Pink was adopted and her gobby best friend who I've met once before said "I met a girl like her on holiday she was fosterd too" in a very loud voice!
I replied very quickly and bluntly "She is adopted not fosterd and we don't want it to be common knowledge"..Stupid bl**dy woman. I was fuming with both of them!!

I did a training course recently. One of the other women on the course was the know all. 7 children, works with children, degrees coming out of her ears. Loud. Awful woman. Not an adopter. 'So you don't have children of your own then?' Yes, three, like I just told you. Yes, but I mean........ Yes, I know what you meant and I understand your ignorance but my kids are legally my own just like yours are. I have the paper to prove it.
Stupid woman.

My usual retort to the "real children" label is to say " as opposed to my imaginary children?"
