Well Ds has learnt to open our front door.... gulp.... so glad I was nearby when he did it... takes some doing requires him to jump standing on tip toes but as he's ever so strong despite being a titch that's not difficult for him....
Ah well note to self keep front door locked at all times!!!
Thanks for reading just needed to share.
As my sister says SC it's just as well you love him!!
Sigh!

I put a high bolt on my door which was fine until the discovery of climbing a chair or launching themselves out of a window. you can get small battery operated alarms that attach to door ( I got velcro ones so needed no screw driver) so when the circuit breaks an alarm sounds as a warning for you.

Security chain on high up? I had to fit one on my mum's door, as when my sister visited from America with her autistic son, he opened the door and went for a walk when he was about 3. Luckily he hadn't gone too far and it isn't a busy road. Security chain also means that if your DS decides to answer the door himself he can't let anyone in without a lot of fumbling of the chain by which time you should be alerted. Just remember to fit it high up.
Like Ham's suggestion too.

Contact alarms worked well here too. When middly did his midnight treks to the kitchen for the iPad the alarm would go off!

My AD is such a titch that this seems a way off but hey where there's a will...

Ah, thanks guys, honestly!! As Pluto said yes it does mean he can open any door.... he enjoyed the fire exit doors at our HE group again today AND the main hall doors, and the doors leading upstairs..... I then decided that an hour in I would use the door to exit group..... said to Potato I'm putting Spud in the car as we have to leave I will come back and get you just now please say your goodbyes.. She was amazing, totally accepted it, just wonderful about it despite the fact she was having a fab time with her friends.
DH was at home as he has the lurgey and we've talked and decided that when he can get home early on a fri I will take Potato to group and leave Spud with him. Spud is just not okay at group and I don't need the looks I'm getting for his coping mechanisms either.. :-(
But back to the front door, Daddy and Spud are going to go to a well known DIY store tomorrow morning and buy a nice bolt while I take DD to ballet....
Thanks for the other suggestions- I may come back to them!!!
SC x

We were warned by FC that Sqk had learnt to open front door - she found him partway down road one day. Ours is standardily locked anyway so got key hooks up high now as well. As to other doors - he can't manage twist handle ones yet but we have hook & eyes on cloakroom door & study door to stop them being opened.

Oh it's a challenge isn't it... I remember thinking at least Spud can't reach the front door and those few cm's he's grown have made all the difference..... ah well!! Keeps us fit!!!

Ah yes, DS has been doing this lately. I don't so much worry about him going out but more that he has opened it a few times to strangers - before they have even knocked!

I am working hard to get DS to accept that he has to get me rather than open the door himself before I resort to a lock higher up! He does like to do things for himself, but as with lots of other things, they are the things I would rather he let me do! Not quite sure what DSs conversation starter would be to a stranger at the door as he is rather quirky (ASD). Luckily so far I have got there sharpish -usually as he opens the door & I run towards him shouting "DO NOT OPEN THAT DOOR!!!". Welcome to the madhouse wide-eyed stranger
