I posted the Annex A last Friday along with tons of reports for my sons statementing request. Nothing heard from LA but have had an appointment letter for him to see paed in November "This medical appointment is essential for the full completion of your child's statement of special educational needs." Does this mean he's being assessed??

It must do, surely?
Ds was not assessed by the paed until after they had made to decision to asses, and that took about 4 weeks, from memory, after initial application.

That was quick. We sent our form off in July and have only just had the decision not to assess. Apparently the timescales stop over the summer holidays and then they're allowed extra time in September to catch up! It certainly sounds positive for you. Good luck. MMx

Does this mean he's being assessed?? I would think so though it is a pretty quick turn round. It is how I got oldest finally seen by a paed. Couldn't get a paed referral through GP, school wouldn't submit for statutory asessment so I did & requested full medical assessments under annex A, which I got. We got the statement. 25 hrs + 30 hrs speech +10 hrs specialist ASD teacher +OT input for sensory issues.

He's in an EBD school and has been since he was 6 - he's 9 now. Has been diagnosed ASD this year as well as SpLD which go with his ADHD and prob FAE. Part of the diagnostic process involved him being seen by OT, SALT and ed psych so all his assessments are up to date. Last time he saw a paed was when he was 6 - just prior to ADHD dx when he bounced off her walls! Schools ed psych is a specialist and on the ball. We already have a plan in mind - just need the statement to be able to start transitioning for him. He already had a Note in lieu of a Statement which is what our LA used to issue but no longer do. Anyhow, full report emailed to paed today so that I don't have to go through everything in front of him. Fingers crossed.
Then we start on littly!!

I think from what I remember that they can take the reports first to determine if the statement is needed. TBH though how much longer can they resist? They have probably realised it's time to get on with it! x

We're all away at the moment so not sure exactly where we are. Madrid, I remember you helping me enormously when we applied a few years ago. At that point our LA didn't do statements - they did notes in lieu instead. Tbh it didn't matter hugely because he got the right school anyway and gets loads of specialist help and support. We're doing it now partly because the LA no longer issue notes in lieu and partly because we're looking ahead to senior school and I want to make sure he gets into the right unit then. Given all his dxs and given that he can't do mainstream I'm fairly optimistic that we'll get somewhere. School are very supportive and his ed psych is a good one!!

Yes definitely sounds like you are being assessed! I am a Senco at my school and when I send in statement applications I am always pleased if the parents get paeditrician's appointments as it is a sign things are moving forward. It does vary between authorities so much but it costs them money to get all the assessments done so they don't usually set it in motion now unless they think the child is likely to get a statement. We have found that with the changes in funding where school have to pay the first 12 hours of support that many children are not being assessed for statements (less than before). They say that the 12 hours which is in our budget (we don't know where!)should be enough to cover their needs without need for a statement. The fact you already have lots of assessments, a note in lieu of statement and place at an EBD school would put you in a very good position to get a statement; though no absolute guarantees. They do have timescales they have to keep to, but you were very lucky to hear about appointments so quickly. In our area takes a lot longer. Good luck
