Went to another assessment today. The lead psychiatrist is hinting that they may recommend a residential therapeutic setting as the only place that may meet our daughter's needs. All very complicated for us as we are currently abroad.
Daughter and hubby are British and we still have a property in the town where we adopted LO.
I'd rather LO went into a setting in England as I'm worried she would lose her mother tongue if accommodated abroad. And we are still trying to see if we could return too. We certainly do not want to abandon her, just the best to try and finally get her the help she needs.
Anyone any idea about procedures and also whether we would have to pay towards this? I would not want to be crippled by this, obviously do not mind contributing but couldn't afford much.

Oohhh flutterby xxx
Residential does in many ways sound reassuring, continuity & more therapeutic constant input x
Not sure about funding don't think you have to esp if ed physc states educationally residential the only way to fulfill dd's needs, same as statement, so therefore has to be granted place. In particular if ed physc names a specific school.... in UK that is....
As you are abroad it may mean returning to U.K. & privately gain ed physc report as ss will try & weasel out claiming system far better in U.K. don't believe/foreign assessment etc 😣 hugs this is huge & gonna be so hard to action xxxx
This will be an age to do if returning to U.K. because of above.... anything in any way suitable near you? English speaking to boot ? 😟 sending you very many gentle hugs xxxx
Please post more you are best placed to tell us about how it works where you are xxx we all want to give you much support xxxx
Xx hugs xxx
Xx moo xx

Oooh, that's a tricky one. In one way it's good that a professional is recognising her level of need - but oh, what a dilemma.
As far as I know, if you are living in the UK you can only be asked to pay a nominal amount (eg £5 per week) but I also think there has been some recent rule change that means if your child is in a residential school and stays more than the usual 39 school weeks then you have to make them Section 20.
Section 20 I believe has also changed and after 6 months social services want it to become permanent and you could lose your parental rights. I am sure someone on here has gone through this so hopefully they may offer some advice.
Sorry to not have definites for you!
Take care, things sound tough.

Thank you Moo and Leo. The good thing is they use official and translated versions of questionnaires published by Hogrefe, who distribute papers such as a the Conner scale and Cattells tests all of which are used as standard within the NHS/CAHMS. So thankfully no wiggle room there. I have started a list of all questionnaires given to me and I have filled some of them out before when my middle one was tested for SPD and Aspergers by CAHMS.
I would not want to give up parental rights, Butterfly has been failed enough and I want the best for her. I am sure, stubborn as I am, I will find a way through all this and somehow get the right results.
