Bb seems to have developed a stammer again... He used to do it when he was at nursery around 3 years old and hasn’t done it for a long time but has started again towards the end of the summer holidays. He isn’t getting stammering on individual letters but words, a lot of the time it seems the same words like because because because or I I I and there some other words too. I had a call from SENCo not specifically regarding this as he has had speech and language referral, OT referral and another referral that escapes me at present but in the conversation she said that one of the forest school teachers had heard a child retching and when she looked it was BB with his fingers down his throat, she asked him why he was doing it as it would make him sick and he said “Because he doesn’t like the way he speaks!” He hasn’t mentioned it and says school is fine. I just feel desperately sad that he is doing this and don’t Know what to do to help him. The school are going back to speech and language to come and do another assessment as at the time a stammer wasn’t an issue. It could be that he is anxious now we have LLB or that he is just trying to get all of his words out at once, he is not liking reading at school and has a complete meltdown about reading telling he can’t do it although I know he can.

Hugs ladybug...
Skweek does something like this still.... he sort of um um um it s its st it is still... I put it down to stress & anxiety.... He is at it again now back at school...he seems reluctant to speak or explain! 😮 ... obviously lb doesn't want to read as he thinks it will happen... interestingly skweek seems unaware on the whole!
I would try not to worry as school seem superb in requesting re-referrals... something we have never had as school claim no budget...
Big life changes new sister, return to school in my view must be somehow linked.... Maybe see gp if you feel you want a referral yourself but I personally think school's will be thorough xx
Sending you hugs xx it is tuff seeing this little step back as I well know xxx
Please keep us posted xxx

Thank you Moo, I will keep you updated. SENCo has been fabulous so I am sure her referral will be sufficient and has applied for extra funding for BB before this anyway to try and support him, in addition to the pupil premium.
i was sitting in the car park after dropping BB at school writing my post crying!

Ladybug... hugs, have done the crying in the car after drop off when it’s not clear how to help these little beings we love so much.
Squirrel used to do this... words not letters... for her it was anxiety and going so fast she got ahead of where her brain was and it started as a way of pausing whilst still feeling like she was pleasing the teacher by talking/ reading.
School sounds great, suggesting a referral rather than having to be strong armed into making a referral sounds like an excellent quality for a senco.
When the referral comes through... get in touch abd day you want to be there at the meeting/ observation to give some background and context.... the more info they have from Home and school they have the better they know your child and the better the suggestions of interventions they have will be.
In the meantime you could maybe try abd scale back weekends/ clubs etc so there’s very little demand/ challenge and he can really recharge. When curious george was struggling at school, we kept everything really low key at weekends, but helped him find his thing... he’s an amazing little bike rider... he was tearing round teenage bmx tracks at 4 and I think after a week at school of things he found hard

Trigger fingers.. finding something he was really really good at did him the world of good... think the exercise gave lots of happy endorphins too
Hope he gets some help soon
