Has anyone looked into / used vitamin B6 or any other 'natural' remedies for hyperactivity in their kids?

No but B and D vitamins are getting a lot of attention for all the amazing things they can do. Omega 3 oils, too.

This areas has not been studies specifically in children from a background of trauma and loss. However Iron, zinc and magnesium blood levels have all been shown to be lower in children with ADHD than in the general population. Studies looking at whether raising blood levels improve behaviour are few, poor quality and show conflicting results. Omega 3 looks a bit more hopeful but there is not enough evidence of benefit to recommend it with confidence. The best thing is to get omega 3 in the form of DHA and EPA form from eating oily fish as we know this is good for us generally (the recent headlines about omega 3 referred to a study showing supplements of omega 3 were highly unlikely to help in relation to prevention of heart disease - the study did not demonstrate anything at all about the role of oily fish.) Getting fishy omega 3 is tricky with kids particularly if they are faddy. You need to be very careful when supplementing particularly if you also give a multivitamin as there is risk of overdose of some fat soluble vitamins which often come along with the omega 3 and also come with the multi-vitamin. If you PM me I can send you a link to an e-book I have written - there is a small charge but it is evidence based and covers a wide range of issues. If you want free stuff there are a couple of articles on my website but not as detailed on supplements. The strongest evidence around hyperactivity is actually around tartrazine, sodium benzoate and other additives. The key challenge is that the culprit additives seem to vary from child to child and so the only way to work out what to do is to keep a food and symptom diary.
