Such a good article Lily and sadly rang so many bells with me and our experience and yes, the police were the ones who were most helpful and sympathetic.
CAMHS really do have to up their game and change the way they operate as so many of our children are being failed.
YDD was assessed by CAMHS Dr's 5 times in 10 days, including a 5 day admission to our local hospital where CAMHS dr recommended she go home after she refused food and drink for the 5 days saying "at least she will eat and drink at home". 3 days later, after yet another CAMHS assessment where they said "she doesn't meet the criteria to be sectioned" , she tried to set fire to the house and the police said "the only way we can remove her to a place of safety is to arrest her for criminal damage and take her to hospital" which they did where they de-arrested her as I was not pressing charges. She then had to have yet another CAMHS assessment before they finally sectioned her. It is shocking.

I could identify with a lot in the article. My AD has ADHD and has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. It is often associated with childhood trauma and neglect. My daughter was sexually abused from a very young age, both in her parental home and in foster care. She is now 32. She struggles with alcoholism, anorexia and self harming. This is info about BPD: www.nhs.uk/conditions/borderline-personality-disorder/Lily
