Have lots to process after today's assessment with LO. Diagnosis of ASD (and SPD) and severe ADHD added to Attachment Disorder. I very nearly cried learning that there is more to her behaviours than attachment but am now feeling quite cross that a) it's taken so long to get the diagnosis (bearing in mind 2 previous assessments have determined that she had neither) and b) that we've had to pay (a huge amount) to see a team of people with sufficient knowledge and understanding to pick the attachment apart from ASD when she has been under CAMHS for the last 4 years. Grrrrr!

(((Monkey))) Well done for getting those diagnoses. I remember the turmoil I felt when my AD was diagnosed with ASD. The way attachment based parenting techniques slid off her made a lot more sense.
Now what? Have that very expensive team made useful recommendations?

Hi Damson We're making progress. The team have changed her medication initially. The LA are progressing a move to a specialist school and we hope that the ASD diagnosis will widen the number of options.

Congratulations monkey. Hope it helps you find a way forward.
Weirdly, my CAMHS is happy to pile label on top of label. I got developmental trauma disorder and ADHD after one hour, and yesterday the psychiatrist offered severe attachment disorder (which I already knew) and, when pushed, agreed to autistic traits as well. Doesn't mean there's any help on offer other than medication, though.

Congratulations Monkey. Knowledge is power.
I hope that the diagnosis gets you something more than just having the medication tweaked.
Here's to greater peace and harmony in the Monkey household!
Do you mind saying where you went? DH and I think that MB's autistic traits may well be full blown ASD. The focus so far has been trauma and attachment (and SPD).

so hard for you all - but hope it brings better understanding - my DD was diagnosed with ASD PDA subtype last December - ages 19 after 11 years of me saying I thought she was - all had been put down to my inability to parent for most of those years - it takes time to come to terms of all the lost time and damage done to you and your DD by the wrong understanding of the issues
take care

I hope that now having diagnosis will get you the right support for your family and that life becomes easier, it's so bad that getting support is so painful and slow, xxx
