There are times, especially when I read of some of the difficulties on these boards, when I feel privileged despite all our difficulties that my two children want to stay connected to me, DH and our family. Neither are living at home for very different reasons; one totally planned and one who seems to have no plan.
Both keep in contact on a regular basis.
DS today managed to sort out something quite tricky in a very mature manner but then in the same sentence of telling me this let me know that his mates had abandoned him and "forgotten" to give him a lift back - my heart lurches - he is a distance away so I never feel like I get the full story but what happened? Why has he been left behind? Did he do something? Why I aren't I there to help him out?
And then - "got to go Mum the bus is here".....once again he managed to sort it out for himself, perhaps he doesn't notice what has happened which would be devastating to me, perhaps the feeling of being left behind is quite normal to him, I am still mortified for him but at a distance and perhaps that is safest, no 17 year old wants Mum bundling in!
AD reports by text that new boyfriend's ex called her names, I empathise and leave it at that.
I am hoping that just being here is sufficient to help them make the steps into coping with the world in their own unique ways........

That's brilliant Mooster, great that he phoned you and told you.
The fact that he did that and shared it with you shows he values you being there for him. He was troubled, he was alone, abandoned by his friends and he phoned YOU. That says it all.
He knows you love him and he knows you care and that you are there for him, that was all he needed to sort out how to get back and that is down to you and your upbringing of him. He was touching base with his mum. He was not alone and that is worth everything to him to know you were on the end of a phone. Xx
