Social farming.
Just got a placement for Dash. Not starting until April so will see how he gets on.
I wondered whether schools could use Pupil Premium to fund something like this?
Not sure best place to put this? Please move to a better place if necessary

Wow that's really great Larsti
I worked with a number of care farms in my old job, they are great places and get some really positive results. I'm sure dash will really benefit.
No harm in asking about the pupil premium

Well Dash and I have had 2 sessions at the smallholding that we were linked with through 'Farm Buddies'. It is perfect
For a start it is only 10 minutes drive away! I was willing to drive for up to 45 mins so that was a bonus!
A lovely woman and her husband bought a thatched cottage with 8 acres (in dilapidated and overgrown state) 14 years ago and now it is just beautiful. It is a wonderful place to spend time. The husband goes out to work so the wife's job is the farm. It made me think of the Sophie books by Dick King-Smith...Sophie wants to be a 'lady farmer' when she grows up. This lady had an ambition to own some land and unlike most of us probably, she actually did it
Arrive at nine and feed the animals. Small flock of rare breed sheep, 2 llamas, 2 Suffolk Punch horses and a horse for riding, hens, and last but not least, 2 cats, one of which follows us round all morning. Dash is a cat lover
There is a large vegetable garden. Dash has planted potatoes, leeks, parsnips, squash and radishes. There is a large fruit cage and a couple of greenhouses. Also a large wildlife pond.
The cottage itself is very interesting. 400 years old and the oldest house in the town apparently. There is a well underneath the house which we will get to see sometime when the husband is home and able to lift the cover off it. This town used to be a village until after the war when so many houses were built. Going around the back of the cottage there are fields and trees as far as the eye can see, and as cottage is on a hill that is quite far. Idyllic!
We have a tea break mid morning and have lunch together and finish at 1. Weather has been perfect but already we have talked about a few wet weather activities.
We are both learning loads and it is a lovely thing to do together. The lady farmer is a natural teacher. Very calm and relaxed as well. Nice to talk about things of interest to me as well as Dash, like her current knitting project using wool from her own sheep which she sent away to be spun but dyed herself....multi coloured jacket...beautiful!
We will carry on as long as everyone is happy with how its going
