Sitting at parents evening last night was an absolute pleasure!
When Starlet started at the end of year 1, she was so far behind in Maths that they couldn't level her. She couldn't even recognise individual numbers or sequence them up to 10. Fast forward two and a half years and she is now working slap bang in the middle of where she should be for her age - currently working on adding three digit numbers together. She's also retaining it - they did a progress test recently covering stuff they've done since September and she got 80%!
Just thought it was worth a mention in case any of you still in your first couple of years of placement are worried about progress at school - there can come a lightbulb moment when things just click!

So lovely to hear kstar. Gives us some hope as Sqk at the moment is at the top-end of where he should be in reading & maths - but his writing is really far behind. Or so I got told at his parents evening - although he can explain perfectly how to form the letters he just cannot do it.

Hang on in there! I can't believe the difference - I have on my fridge the note she wrote for me on her first day at school, a few words in enormous, irregular printing with several errors. At parents evening I'm sitting there looking at the 24 pages she has written in her "star work" book, including a poem she wrote about the blitz which was just lovely.
I'm not sure if it actually was the turning point in her writing but audio books have definitely got her reading and improved her concentration - which in turn led to seriously improved stamina when writing.
