I failed to run the dishwasher last night, so there are no clean plates. I told DD she would just have to wash a plate up; she tried to get me to do it but I refused. She has now taken a dirty plate, put a layer of kitchen paper over it and put her toast on that.

Quite normal in my household as YDD regularily eats off a piece of kitchen towel rather than using a plate.
Says it saves on washing up, not that she ever does any.

Somehow, eating off a piece of kitchen paper seems okay, eating off a piece of kitchen paper covering a dirty plate doesn't. Or maybe it's just me.

It's always like this. She tries to get me to get her drinks, get things from her room, even work the remote for her. When we're out, she expects me to carry everything. I get so sick of the abuse I get when I refuse that sometimes I'm afraid I actually do those things.

We have one of those here too, it drives me mad. I jokingly say 'what did your last slave die of ?' and she replies 'They are still here and working hard !' This slave is less willing and refusing to do lots of things now, but dh is still very obliging. On a therapeutic day I think she needs to know we care enough to do things for her, but the reality is she is bone idle at times !

Very similar here times two. With visitors dd1 is little miss helpful but once they're gone she asks someone else to do everything for her (generally I refuse but DH is a soft touch). Dd2 is always described by her teachers as kindness personified and loves doing jobs there. At home she regards the least request as an insult or evidence we don't really love her! Except when they want to show how much nicer they are than each other. Currently working on getting them to put their own dishes in the dishwasher - lots of reminding involved!!
