We have a fig tree / bush which is overloaded. Normally I give them to the neighbours. What do I do with them?

Ditto to Monkey's post, although ours just rot. How do you when they ready to eat and how do you eat them?

Milly, you pick them when they change to the browny purple colour and go soft. Often they produce a drop of sticky liquid on the bottom just as they are ripe.

How soft should they be? - ours seem to be very squishy now (and covered in insects, yuk). I'm not keen on very soft fruit and they feel over ripe to me, but what do I know?
Yes hate the waste, must get my act together. (Also inundated with pears and apples - hate pears but my girls like them luckily)

They shouldn't be too squishy, but not hard either, think plum not Apple
Fig jam - nice with cheese,
We are overrun with raspberries, so are juicing! Raspberry fig and banana smoothies - yummy!
Do you have any schemes locally that collect surplus stuff, donate to homeless shelter ?
