My 93 year old mother is currently undergoing surgery for a fractured hip. She fell yesterday. She has been an incredibly fit person and recovered well from a hip fracture about 8 years ago. But my brother, a retired doctor, says that elderly people of her age generally (statistically) do not recover well. I hope her resilience pulls her through. I await news from my sister who lives closer and who is liaising with the hospital.

So far so good! She is out of surgery and has spoken to my sister on the phone. She is to spend 10 days in hospital and may then go to a rehab place. Alternatively I may be caring for her myself for a couple of weeks in her home. So fingers crossed that, despite the odds, she makes a good recovery. She has a little dog that she adores so that will be strong motivation for her. Otherwise the dog will probably live with my sister.

I hope all goes well with recovery and she is back on her feet already. Weight, energy and zest for life all make a difference.

Sending warm wishes to you at a worrying time - hope your mum continues to make a good recovery and is soon back with her little hairy companion. They must be missing each other something rotten.
