ok we have now watched despicable me and despicable me 2. The children are minion mad.
I love the films... but minions... they are basically very naughty 3 year olds..who love farting for fun, saying rude words and laughing a lot at it!!
All the things I spend ages telling my two not to do!!!......
I'd far rather they were watching Bagpuss.. but hey ho we have minions... has anyone else got issues with minions....or am I just to like Gru!

Farting for fun? Always popular in our house ....& not just with the kids! A German friend visited today & my 2 were asking her to say things in German. My Father was requested a fair bit

I have actually adopted the Minions as a mascot for my House that I am in charge of at school! I love them, the kids love them and our house colour is yellow. Yes they laugh at fart jokes and fight over bananas, but they are also intelligent, witty, resilience beyond belief, great team players, good problem-solvers, conscientious and unbelievably loyal to those they see as a family, including three little girls adopted from care. What's not to love?

Bop I think Ii am devoid of humour ! We saw the Minion film & thought it was boring. Didn't laugh or smile whilst the rest of audience rolled in the aisles !
I've seen Despicable me as I walk through the room.
Our lollipop man thinks they are great & has one in his car. Using his minion voice sometimes to the delight of the kids.
Honestly I mustn't have a funny bone !
Save your money & wait for the film to be on TV IMHO

Yeah I was disappointed with Minions today but I adore the Despicable Me films. Luckily Starlet does too, we probably watch one or both of them every couple of weeks. Hilarious!

Love Despicable Me films and think the minions, are funny, but found the film boring. Went with dd1 who was very upset about something at the time. Thought it would distract her but she didn't enjoy it and insisted on leaving before the end and have to say I wasn't bothered although I usually like kid's films.

Little Will and me love a trip to the cinema and loving the Despicable Me films it was a must for us. I am slightly embarassed to admit that I slept through most of the film so I can't tell you whether it is any good or not, it didn't hold my attention although Little Will loved it. We saw Jurassic World at the weekend, now there's a film that keeps you awake and 95% of our conversations since have been about dinosaurs and the Indominous Rex.

We went and all loved the Minions film.( and Despicable Me, one being better than two but both good) Maybe our humour level hasnt't developed enough but the innocent lighthearted approach of the film appealed here and we came out smiling and have used incidents from the film in our own humoirous exchanges in the family. since ("Bananaaaaaa ( plus actions)is a good one if someone gets too demanding. ) ds2 since then has described kids at school as looking like one or other of the three girls, and , if i didnt know she was local, i would have said that one girl in our local primary school is really the one with the glasses !i would rather have toilet humour than swearing or nastiness, mine are old enough to know when its not appropriate ! And the film shows how thoughtless actions can affect people. Considering a Mimions pencil case for ds2 for next term...........

Its ok Monkey... as I would be laughing too..if it wasn't my child doing that!
Since then for those that have read my other posts.. I have said I am not taking them to see Minions at the cinema..
Why? they asked
Because you are not a minion and I don't want you to behave like one! I said.
Peewit...tearfully... Mummy don't you like Minions ?
Me...No.
Peewit... 'that make me sad'
Me...'Oh well...
Peewit...I am not a minion mummy
Me...Oh good..that means I love you then

I enjoyed the DM films, but I found the noises in the Minions film irritating beyond belief. Girls liked it though. My 13 yr old shares Minions posts on FB on a daily basis, some of them are sweet. Also, they love all the mioions t-shirts/pyjamas etc. I think on some level for mine, (a bit older than lots of yours, I think - 13 & 14) it gives a sense of fitting in with society which they don't always experience.

I think it's also a socially acceptable way for older kids to enjoy animated films - the Minions are so popular with everyone right up to adults that it's ok to go and see it/ have a Minions pencil case/ sleep with a stuffed Minion at an age when the Princesses etc are just seen as babyish!

on a slight tangent...I bought Mary Poppins and they watched it this morning with me, ( I haven't seen in for at least a number of decades) well...we have a whole very different experience...no farting, no minion fighting..a very long film with big dance sequences, songs and a message which was about parents learning to have fun and enjoy their children...but not a minion in site...my two loved it...and I felt it did us good to watch it...did them good....interesting...that a film made maybe 50 or more years ago would be so relevant , funny, and moving to a young audience of today....

Our BD loves Mary Poppins. We even had a Mary Poppins birthday party for her 7th. Great film. Mudlark, I bought a Minions shopping bag from Tesco today. I thought of you as I was paying for it! Glad you had a good day. MMx

If they enjoyed Mary Poppins, try Chitty Chitty Bang Bang -Starlet watches both of them on a loop lol. Bizarrely, even though the likes of Beauty and the Beast are deemed too scary, the Childcatcher doesn't bother her!

oh Kstar...the child catcher still scares me today... he is very predatory and sinister!!
I have shown them clips from the film and they know all the words from the song Chitty Bang Bang, and we all love singing it... but I think the child catcher will be too frightening for them!
Anyway..regarding minions..I have decided that their silly farting, fighting, squabbling, tricks and tantrums are quietly banished...I will be the most unpopular mum ever...but hey ho! I did the same with Peppa Pig...who I found obnoxious ....
they told me today they like Mary Poppins best. Horray.
