Hi youngest has slight eczema. Very mild.
But sun tan lotion is making it worse. Any suggestions ?
Also suggestions for bath & shower cleaner.
We are applying his prescribed hydrocortisone cream so it's not any worse but has been a terrible scab picker so need to keep on top of this.
Thanks

Aaargh. Long response disappeared when my mobile rang!
I used to use aqueous cream for my two in bath and shower - big tub from boots or tesco etc less than two pounds. Their skin is much better now so use asda baby stuff for soap and shampoo (johnsons caused problems). Also now have doublebase cream prescribed for us and although we use as a moisturiser I think it can also be used in the bath.
Suncream wise we have tried many but boots soltan works for us -especially the sun stick they do that looks like a small underarm deodorant. This has no effect at all on their snki and we use it all over as very easy to apply too - a useful thing on children who don't like being touched or rubbed!

no easy answer beyond patch testing. with my eldest it wasn't the sun screen per se but the combination of the sun screen and then going out in the sun that caused the reaction. for him we just ensured he was always covered with long sleeved clothing and wore a hat, didn't find a cream that he didn't react to. but his eczema is severe.
for baths etc avoid soaps and ask your gp or health visitor to prescribe something, and then again, patch test it first. best one for my BS has always been epaderm, aqueos wasn't so good, anything with lanolin a complete no-no. for some of my sensitive babies I have found double base cream to be good but usually put it on after a bath in just water.

Banana boat Sun screen is supposed to be good for los with eczema. Apparently aqueous cream is not recommended now, we have diprobase which works well.

'the Sun Mousse' is one that's recommended fir eczema & sensitive skin. I've been using it for years on a child who has suncream allergies. Sadly she has recently built up an intolerance to this one too It's one to order online rather than in the shops though.

Lapwing has terrible eczema behind her knees , her elbows, her bottom and her wrists..we shower rather than bath just use a cotton face cloth ..no soap at all.
Afterwards we lather her in epiderm ointment rather than the cream..
We use factor 50 for sensitive skin or if her eczma is bad we just get her to wear long sleeved or loose fitting clothes
Its so awful to see them feel so itchy and raw...xx

Hi thanks for your tips.
Off to get a few sun lotions so I can do test patches.
We are out of prescribed cream & I need to see the doctor before I reorder. I have read that there is a prescribed eczema sun tan lotion.
Will let you know
