Sorry, the title is probably a bit harsh but struggling to get my words out tonight! The Post Adoption Team Leader in our LA is considering putting on some training for Adopters & FCs on how to deal with children who lash out physically. She says that this is the quickest growing area of concern in our area. I just wondered if anyone knew of any programmes or training providers who offer such things. There's no expertise within our LA apparently.

I work in an ebd school and we having training to deal with angry, aggressive , violent children and use steps approach. I have done other programmes but more often then not if you end up in a restraint ,it requires2 people which is not often the case in a home setting.it is always a last resort.
There are things we have to do first like confirming their anger and we are here to help them. Trying distraction and redirection ideas.and if this does not work we move to a restraint. This is a last resort. They are all recorded In my look experience a restraint works well for some and they calm quite quickly but the adopted and LAC children fuels their fury and they are always plenty of staff around to help.but could be worth asking SW to approach special schools to ask about what they use.
there is also NVR - non violent resistance see http://Www..Oxleas.nhs.uk

I've read something recently about a program to deal with Child to Parent violence being developed specifically for adopters, somewhere in England... Can't remember whether it was on here or from AUK - I have a feeling Pear Tree knows something about it (but maybe wrong on that).
