So today was lesson number nine and first attempt at stage four - massive leap up in terms of distance covered and she's shattered, especially having had school swimming today too!
HOWEVER... At the end the teacher pulled her aside and asked if she would like to join the academy squad for the local swimming club! She is older than they normally accept for the academy, but because she has come so far so quickly, they are confident they can get her caught up to her age group in weeks!
I may be about to enter a new phase of my life... As a swimming supporter mum!

Wow! That's wonderful kstar To excel at something like that is going to be great for you DD.
Have you got a good alarm clock for the 6am sessions at the pool?

Oh good lord I couldn't cope with that lol... Luckily to start with its Sundays at 3pm. That's bad enough, a bit limiting when it comes to holidays etc!

Its only as I've got older that I fully realise the significance of those speeches and interviews where people say 'I'd like to thank my wonderful parents for their support'. We parents put in a lot of effort ourselves even if it's 'just' transport. We wouldn't have it any other way of course :-)

Hate to tell you kstar my niece was a fantastic swimmer when she was in her early teens, use to train before and after school with early morning swims at 5.30am before school and she took part in swimming competitions nearly every weekend which were all over the country and my brother and SIL were expected to ferry her all over the place to compete in these competitions as the swimming club wasn't funded and didn't have a mini bus. This was in Ireland and there was talk of her making the Olympic team when she was old enough, but thankfully (for my brother and SIL), she decided to pack it in as it was taking up too much of her time and she just wanted to be an ordinary teenager and do ordinary things like her friends.
She is still a fabulous swimmer and spent last summer working in California as a lifeguard during her holidays from university, so it was a useful skill to have, but she has now just started her first job in a high paying position having got her degree in marketing. She still swims now, but only for pleasure.

Well done starlet!
I swam competitively as a child and loved it. I lived a five minute walk from the pool so did the 6am walk on my own every morning - not much fun in the cold dark north of Scotland winter mornings. Our club had lots of good swimmers and hired buses for us so my parents thankfully never had to travel with me.
changed days now for me - I do about 300 miles a week with my two!

Ohh go starlet, it's so good for our children to find something they can excel at. Joking apart, if she pursues it the discipline of a sport may well save her from other stuff later on

Here's hoping :-) the sensory input helps a lot as well - she finds water very soothing in general, likes the weight bearing sensation of being in the water, and she can flip herself about to her heart's content knowing she's not going to injure herself. First Academy session tomorrow so we shall see! The only concern I have is that she goes into meltdown if she thinks she's not good enough - her swimming teacher is great though so hopefully he'll get it!
