Mooching round Waterstones at lunchtime I saw a display of colouring in books for adults. Very intricate designs, some other pages for doodling.
A couple of them had subtitles of Art Therapy for Stressed Adults, one specifically mentioned Mindfulness
if there was one talent I wish I had it would be to be able to draw or compose music. I can't draw a straight line with a ruler, and even though I love music I cant produce it myself. I have found other outlets for my creative yearnings, but I thought they looked quite interesting,
any one else come across them?

No but I remember doing workshops at DD's primary school where parents had to make things to help their children learn and we had to colour in the things we were making and everyone commented on how relaxing and theraputic it was.

My mind was boggling for a while!
I did a bit of an introduction to mindfulness and one of the things we did was some colouring in. Being aware of the sounds and the sights; what happened when we held the pencil differently, or used different ways of colouring; how we felt if we went outside the lines; stuff like that. It was very interesting.

When the kids were small i often found myself alone at the kitchen table still colouring, - they were long gone. I havne't seen the books that you refer to - but have seen the doodle books - looking forward to retiring - that'll be what I'm doing. I did some art classes years ago - 1 teacher had us copying pictures upside down. It engages the other side of the brain apparently, because the logical part can't recognise what it's looking at, the more creative side takes over - we had some amazing likenesses.

Yes Serrakunda...they are really good, you can also get therapeutic colouring in for children, the three of us often sit with our therapeutic colouring...there is a whole load of psychology behind it, which I will post on here later, or googol it ..and it has helped us all! but at the moment cooking tea!

Gace realised that all therapeutic sensory stuff I do for the kids works wonders for me... Especially water beads in shaving foam!! But love doing huge scribbles with the kids on great big cardboard boxes then filling in one bit of the squiggle each... Have been known to be finishing my section off after bedtime with the radio/ TV in the background much to Dh's amusement. Also find print outs of hands and doodling in mehndi patterns is v relaxing

This is interesting and I can see the value of just passing the time concentrating on one thing and getting really involved - I have started doing jigsaws again - provided the cat hasn't run off with the pieces it seems to take to me to somewhere new and time just flies past. Then I feel guilty for spending so long but actually I think for me the pleasure I get from it is really healthy.
Mooster x
PS Got a wee bit of pleasure today from eating a packet of Smarties in the sunshine too! Takes me back to childhood, all sensory stuff.

I too enjoy the colouring in. One of my little ones recently coloured inside all the lines on a picture with concentration like I had not witnessed before. This has just reminded me to take it in and show teacher tomorrow. Also find myself sorting though all the foam stick on clothing kit activity kit we got them. I like to sort all the shoes, hats, tops trousers etc. into piles. Doesn't stay that way for long though.

I love colouring! Starlet's currently studying the Vikings - last week's homework was to design some Viking sails, so we drew two together for her to colour... Then I made another two for myself when she was in bed haha!

I have been colouring away for a couple of weeks now. Even bought my own pencils! Finding it very absorbing
