I've just had a lovely afternoon with my 29 year old AD on one of her days off. After lunch, we went to see the film 'The theory of everything' which we both very much enjoyed. DD for several years has worked as a carer in a nursing home looking after people suffering from Dementia. She told me she has been made 'fire safety officer' for the home because of her vigilance about fire safety issues. For instance she has reported that staff members (including nurses) have been propping fire doors open, in clear contravention of fire safety regulations. This is the same girl who I feared would burn the house down when at 14 she was an alcoholic and abused solvents, in particular lighter fuel. She took up smoking at the same time. What a difference the passing of the years and greater maturity make! Lily
