Friday I went into work for the last time and handed in my laptop and phone. This morning, I'm a self-employed life coach! Wow! I've done it!
So looking forward to seeing change in people's lives.

Congratulations, what is a.life coach exactly? What are the sort of problems people have will they need/want a life coach? I do not have a clear idea, if your house is a mess you need flylady, if you have suffered some sort of trauma you might need therapy by a psychiologist, for every limitation is a specific therapy, where comes life coaching in there? It sounds very interesting ofcourse I can google but I like to hear from someone who works in 'the field'. Thanks

Thanks, everyone. Pluto, a life coach is someone whose aim is to get you from where you are to where you want to be - and more quickly than if you did it yourself. There are lots of levels and specialities. The basic level is "I want to achieve a goal - run a marathon; own my own house; adopt a child". The client works with you to clarify their goals, maybe break it down into smaller steps and put together an action plan. I then encourage and support the client in achieving their action plan. At the other end is what I'm really interested in which is transformative coaching. "OK, I've run a marathon, own my own house and adopted a child, but I still don't feel happy and fulfilled". My favourite area is working on that. What are you thinking? How do you see the world? What beliefs do you have that are preventing you from feeling happy and fulfilled? Not necessarily religious beliefs but beliefs like, "If I shout at my child, I'm a BAD person; my adopted child is doing drugs, getting girlfriends pregnant and in trouble with the law, so I'm a failure". I love to see the look on people's faces, or hear the difference in their voice over the phone, when they realise that they're actually an incredible person who's doing a brilliant job. Eighteen months ago, I was a wreck. I was being threatened with the sack because I couldn't cope with work and Mackerel. I had loads of time off with stress and depression and I was getting HUGE. I worked with a life coach and now I feel happy most of the time, I've sorted out the situation with Mackerel, work was fine (until they moved the offices to the US) and I've lost nearly two stone. It made a huge difference to me, and I want others to have the same opportunity. I love working with adopters, because I find them to be incredible people and anything that I can do to support and encourage them is absolutely and completely worthwhile. I'd love to see more adopters move out of self-condemnation, guilt, resentment and grief into acceptance and enjoyment, peace and serenity. Life coaching gives me the chance to support and encourage people - something that I love, as you can probably tell from my posts over the years. Oooh Corky, you've come out of the closet (so to speak) Great to finally "see" you after chatting to you for years and funnily enough, you look kind of how I'd imagined you to look. Best of luck with your new career, I'm sure you'll be great.

Good luck. Someone once told me (while we were standing on a balcony) that sometimes you've just got to jump and hope you catch the rope. Sounds like you will be swinging through the trees. Congratulations. x
