Even though my keyboard is broken by a certain Peewit thwaking it with his 'sword' its just about working.
I have written many times on here about how hard things are...
.but today the last day of the Christmas holidays, just over a year in, despite blood being shed, chairs broken, Christmas presents trashed...Lapwing made me laugh. It was a joyful laugh, a childish laugh, one which I have longed to hear. It was very simple ,as I watched her own joy at winning a game...then again as amazingly she sat on my lap and giggled and giggled as I tickled her, something previously she has hated.... then she laughed and laughed when I pretended to be holding her tight so she wouldn't fall off my lap. ...her eyes were bright, she looked so lovely, I felt a huge pang of maternal love.
It really showed me two things firstly how few moments of true joy there have been.. secondly.....wow...its working...she can giggle and laugh and just let go for a moment. my best moment this year.....I 'll hang on to it!

Feels so good, doesn't it, when you finally see how your hard work is actually making a difference. We had the same with Butterfly, it took her over a year to have her first real moment, but once she dared to open up, she has been doing this more and more. We still have our moments and they seem very extreme, but there is nothing better in this world than a child laughing, where the giggle seems to be coming from deep within. You got the most lovely Christmas present from Lapwing. Trust and happiness. xxxx

Lovely.
Let's hope you have lots more such moments, now that you've had your first.
I find moments of uncontrolled laughter with Monkey Boy very healing, for both of us.

So lovely to read, mudlark. I understand the mixed emotions, but savour that positive and every time you get another you can "snowball" them. They'll help get you through wobbles.
Well done Lapwing, but also (especially) well done to her dedicated mummy!

As Toko said, now Christmas has passed, her worst time of year, hopefully things will improve and you get to see more of a relaxed Lapwing with her worries fading a bit. Laughter really is the best medicine.
I inadvertently said something in innocence that was actually very funny when I was out with EDD over Christmas. She twigged the funniness of what I'd said and we both burst out laughing and continued giggling as we walked down the street with passing people looking at us in wonder. It was fabulous after the strain of last year to have a few moments of genuine laughter and fun.
