Howler is having a v tough time separating from me at the mo... Regression with toiket training, wanting to be spoon fed, needing to be the baby of the house again and wanting to be carried all the time For her bday I booked her and a couple of friends a riding session, ten mins putting hats on, ten mins patting horses, ten mins grooming horses and then a little ride, totally my fault for not checking things in enough detail, but the little ride was not walking round the riding school, but ten mins off round their beginner track... My heart stopped when I saw her being led off and out... But she went off without a backward glance, came back beaming like I haven't seen her smile for weeks and wanted another go immediately and off she went again, came back elated and ecstatic and so keen to come again. She's been dry ever since and has been much closer to her old self I'm so happy for her and that this happened on her bday

How lovely. Isn't is surprising what can trigger a change for the better. Horses are just so powerful in their ability to affect our children. We also had success on DD's B'day. She loves 1.D. & got her 1.D. bedding. now she goes to bed on her own, no need for mum laying beside her for hours. After 8 years we have our evenings back! all with thanks to One Direction!

You can't beat horses for their power of de stressing! They've been my life saver on many occasions and got me through my childhood. It's definitely something I would encourage. BF loves them but LM, although a natural rider, just isn't interested.

Fantastic re the pony.
Might have to get dd2 some 1D bedding too to see if it has the same effect!

Definitely going back, I feel she really needs something that's just hers, so she can separate out from squirrel a little. She also has a great empathy and gentleness for animals that I think should be encouraged

It's been suggested to me that riding would help dd to regulate, reading this it sounds like we should give it a go! I spent many happy hours mucking out ponies to earn my weekly ride as a young teenager :-)

There is a local charity near us who are specifically for children/young adults from difficult back grounds or mental health diagnosis. They have their own stables and show children how to look after, care for and ride horses in an understanding, therapeutic way. Our DS is on the waiting list for a place. We have also done Horse Vaulting through ridding for the disabled they had club specially for children with ADHD, our two were referred by CAMHs and loved it until they changed the times of the classes and they couldn't go.
