So, I have been looking at schools for poppet next year and I would appreciate some thoughts.
School A
The grounds were lovely, as it had lots of climbing frames etc and it also had a nature trail. The children taking us on the tour, were well mannered etc (as you would expect) and the children in the classrooms were attentive and enthusiastic. The school is very diverse in regards to ethnicity. The whole feel was nurturing and happy. The school has two HT's, who were happy to speak to me and I didn't feel that they were trying to fob me off . They told me that there are a number of adopted children in the school and they liked to be 'creative' with the PP. For instance, one family asked for an ed psych assessment, some wanted more social mentoring and others wanted their children to more input in regards to literacy etc. They also said they liked to work with parents. I left feeling positive. This school is the furthest to where we live.
School B
The grounds were again nice, although did not have as much equipment as school A. The HT gave the tour and was very informative And the children we spoke to were very enthusiastic about the place and staff. We were told that they mix year groups up, even in the reception class. The HT had been HT for a number of years and told me that there were a number of children that were adopted at the school. However, she 'skirted' over some of the questions I asked. I left feeling....well nothing! This school is quite close to us.
School C
This school is again close and had lovely grounds. The children were attentive and seemed happy there. It is again very ethnically diverse and very very hot on achievement. This school has some impressive results as the children were scoring well above the national average. They mix year groups from year 1, with exception for the literacy and numeracy lessons. It is set in a very middle class neighbourhood and many parents who historically would have sent their children to an independent school now send them here. The school has no adopted children (nor LAC) on the school roll....When I spoke to the HT, I felt that he did not understand PP SS he began talking about service children etc.....
Now, here's the thing. DH is leaning towards school C, whereas I prefer school A. I have argued that school C is possibly not that nurturing and that I wasn't sure if I wanted poppet to be the first adopted child that they have had experience of. I liked school A, I suppose it is because just felt 'right'.....pushes the children but are also concerned about the 'whole' child. Also, I'm not one that nesscessarily agrees with mixing year groups at such a young age. Hmmmmmmmmm.
