The last edition of my local newspaper advertised a 'come and try' session for the sport of 'curling'. I watched it on the Olympics and thought it looked rather intriguing. So yesterday I gave it a shot. The curling club has a dedicated ice rink alongside but completely separate from the ice skating rink. Several teams can play games at the same time. It is hugely popular (well, I do live in Scotland). I can tell you that it is a lot harder than it looks! It is also remarkably energetic. Before the session we had to do energetic warm up exercises. Then there is all that frantic brushing of the ice as the stones head towards you. Sweeping will never seem the same again. It actually requires quite a lot of skill to launch the granite stone (without going with it yourself ) and maintaining your balance with the aid of the broom and 'curling' it at the same time. I've got a big bruise under my knee today from crashing on to the ice but I appear to have lost two pounds in weight! I am contemplating taking beginner classes. What sports have you tried recently? oo good one! My new sport is parenting (!!) but I am loving giving the kids the chance to learn and enjoy things like swimming, football...Brains picked up a tennis ball at summer sports club and hit a perfect serve, don't think that came from any previous experience, and I'm desperate to get Benny into gymnastics because she's such a fearless monkey with so much upper body strength. I just have to remember to pace ourselves so we aren't run ragged after school and we are still only in the first year of placement.
If I ever get the chance I'd love to learn some proper Latin dancing. Meeow!

Littlebee has recently started gymnastics. She can sometimes be clumsy and her coordination isn't great but she is doing amazingly and I think it is going to help improve this and be good for her self esteem.
It looks like so much fun I wish I could join in!

Took myself off to a Ceroc evening last night - very scared on my own - I enjoyed the dancing bit, no idea what I was doing, lots of twirling - struggled with the dancing with lots of different men - some of them appeared very strange but maybe I do too! Wish my own lovely DH would join me.

My AS did karate at about age 9 and got a lot out of it - it is not just about him being disciplined but those around him too which is why we have struggled so much with team sports like football - lots of boys telling each other what to do - very athletic AS but struggled to find the right outlet - in the end it is army cadets that has completely grabbed him - you can go in year 8 I think.

Not exactly a sport but I went to Pilates yesterday. It was surprisingly difficult but I felt GREAT afterwards. It was a really friendly class, too.

Not strictly a sport but dd2 loves dancing at home. She is very creative and makes us laugh with her moves but finds it hard to keep to a beat etc and has always refused to go to a dance class. However the company she does drama with have started up some new classes and I persuaded dd to try a taster "jazz' class. She was happy to go as she knows the other girls who were also trying it (hates to go somewhere where its all strangers). And she LOVED it and is going to the first proper class this pm. Fingers crossed she still likes it.......

My son goes to diving lessons. This is the boy I was sure was incapable of A. standing still and B. taking any notice of any instruction given to him. Never have I seen a more intently still desperate to do exactly as told child...... It is almost creepy..... I am not sure he is the next Tom Daley, but he adores the classes! Mr Badwolf said I was an idiot to even let him try as he would be thrown out for messing around after a week Badwolf

If a child encourages another person to start a new sport they can apply to get a Blue Peter Badge.

Ah, I remember those days - does your back in if you are not careful - it moves on to the "yes of course I am holding on!" sport as you watch them topple over!

I recall the sport of avoiding the thrown bike and trying to get screeching angry child and thrown bike in the same place.......

I remember the backache! Good job Mackerel could already ride a bike when he came so I only had to go through it 6 times.
