Is this "craze" in your area ? Or am I late to the party ?
I've just meet my 13 yo neighbour. I'd consider him pretty street wise. He has 6 assorted loom bracelets. I'd thought they were just for girls.
But it nope my son wants a kit to make them & has 2 orange & pink ones.
We've had a note from school that they are not school uniform.
They are tiny plastic elastic bands that remind me of the type people put on their braces.

Yes it's all the rage here - dd2's class make them incessantly and where I teach all the children have them - yes it's boys and girls, which is great.

Just a way to extract money from unsuspecting parents
Like Brasil football stickers, which Simba is collecting

Essentially they're just tiny coloured elastic bands. You can get a 'loom' to weave them on but dd and I couldn't make head nor tail of the instructions for that (!) and they all just seem to make them on their fingers actually. The bags of bands are reasonably inexpensive - within pocket money range.

To be fair we've done a fair bit of geography, maths and discussing various scenario and outcomes around the World Cup. We have a wall chart, he records all the scores, projected through to the various combinations of possible finalists, he knows all the flags, we've talked about capital cities, the difference between clubs and national teams, national dress, animals in different places, history ( if you count looking at previous winners) all very educational in an autistic kind of way.
Be glad when it's finished though. Fortunately nanny and grandad will be here next weekend. Grandad is a footie fan so they can watch the final together

Loom bands are FAB. DD's love them and spend hours making bracelets. They are so cheap and easily available Moo. Got ours from Amazon about £1 for 600 and no post&packaging so a bargain! You can get them in more boyish colours like black and white and not just pink and purple so boys like making them too. You don't need looms to make them DD just uses two pencils and as she has long fingernails she never uses the hook at all. If you don't know how to make them just look on Youtube, there are loads of videos on there showing the different ways of making them. Great rainy day project or for when travelling or stuck at airports or whatever. Be warned though you will have to wear some.

Starlet got into loom bands a couple of months ago, and I thought it would be a two minute wonder but she still loves them. They're a god send when we're out and about - easy for me to keep a pack in my bag and she can entertain herself for hours.
She has also been making them to sell for our local children's hospice and has made £80 so far!! She's very proud of herself.
