Couldn't open it on my new tablet, but can on my elderly laptop - Well done that woman! Great article and great that Auk are finally being brave enough to publish something that tells it like it is. Perhaps 2014 is the year they start listening to adopters again, as they finally appear to have listened to everyone disliking the new site and have remedied it.

I've just caught up with this. Excellently written - thank you.
And yes those 2 quotes do resonate (maybe because I was one of the parents interviewed and I cried while I told our story). Does anyone get excellent adoption support, I wonder? And if so where from and how? There just doesn't seem to be money available.
Our family must have had a big cut of what is on offer locally. Both boys see CAMHS psychotherapists, middly is in EBD school, for a while we had a lovely supportive PASW and we get adoption allowance.....but our support doesn't nearly cut it. Our boys need intensive therapy, probably family futures or similar, Mr gsh & I both need psychotherapy and much more than we can afford, eldest needed extra school help that he didn't get and now needs an appropriate place where he can live part time away from home - (and we haven't found anywhere). We need some training in how to manage their violence at home. Little chick needs some play therapy. We are one of the families who have not disrupted....but we aren't coping actually. It's too hard when the big boys are both at home.
What did our latest assessment of needs get us? Only a battle with the new PASW and her boss because she wrote in the report that Little Chick is at serious risk of harm from the big boys (and yes she did change the wording). That was not the adoption support we need. Is there any money available to help us? No. Their conclusion was that they can offer us NOTHING.
So glad that some of you have the energy to battle the system for those who come after us.
I really hope AUK print this article. xxx
