She's failed vetting. Likely to have arthritic knees. Can't take that risk. Absolutely sad.

You sounded very very disappointed about not having her.
If they'll pay for the x ray why not, you'll have a clear answer, if there is a problem you can say no without any what ifs, and it could be a yes

Unfortunally most horses do not reach mature age, they are kept un natural often many, many hours in stables, they do not eat slowly and move a lot every day. Look at 'paddock paradise' (Jamie Jackson) how you can give horses a better life. Having horses shod causes also many problems. My horses are bare foot and when there is a real need I use hoof shoes, happens very rarely.
Let then make an xray, if it is not that bad get offer half the price and hope for the best. I ones had a beautifull 9 year old mare, who just lay dead in the meadow one morning, perfectly healthy as far as i was aware. Been riding the day before. So what I want to say keeping horses is a risk, if you just ride recreational keep her natural and not do high jumps etc, I think the mare will probably be fine.

I've not even got her yet and she's causing stress! Latest update. Vet has questioned sweet itch. I've read up on it. Nightmare. But owners have said they'll sign something saying they'll take her back if she develops sweet itch. Vet happy with that. Vet going back to do X-rays (owner paying) tomorrow and if they show clear then continuing with 5* vetting if she passes that then buying. I am an emotional wreck. Huge thanks to all for your knowledge and advice. X

oh esty - hope it all turns out okay. I know how much my sister and nieces adore their ponies and all the things they have to consider when buying them or even having them on loan.
Fingers crossed.

Esty I have 4 with sweet itch, it really is not the end if the world. Tell the owner that you want 2 or 3 boett blankets, than it's fine. If the horse needs a shelter she can choose to stand at dusk and dawn, that she needs. Yes you have to spray against flies, I can give you a receipy with essential oils in water, and let her wear a boett or similar blanket. Other than that it is only in the summer.

Attachment DeletedMollie at home with us! Well, at our livery yard. X-rays were clear. Sweet itch clear! I feel like a new woman. I hadn't realised that me being without a horse was like being without an important body part. But it was. Stress levels nil! Disability services can bring on whatever they want. I am now their equal! One very happy person!

She is an absolute delight! Went on 5 mile ride today with youngest son and friend on bikes and me and friend on horseback. She didn't put a foot wrong. Farrier has put her in top 5 of horses for shoeing. And she is really calming so can be tied up now without throwing herself around. She has put my life back on its axis and I can now cope with anything that is thrown at me!

Sounds fab Etsy, I know nothing about half of what was being discussed ( being a city girl) but you seem very happy and that is all that counts. Xx
