Well I am worn out already! My 13 year old is going on a school day trip today. She is sooooo nervous and it reached fever pitch just before she left for school. It was like having an overgrown two year old crying and ranting. She claimed no one had told her anything about trip and I was fuming with the school, thinking I must dash off an email to the senco for future reference ..... When she admits the senco talked it over with her yesterday, that she knows which TAs are going ( but hates them, of course) and that the TA who works with her on social and emotional stuff has said she can go in early and talk to her. She then decides she doesn't need to see the latter. Dh walks her to school to calm her nerves and finds they have also arranged for her to sit with another girl on the coach ( she has no friends at school at the moment).
So really it sounds like the school have done all they can - although I have never heard of this girl they have put her with and can imagine dd is terrified at the prospect of having to chat to her.
She has been on trips with this school before, and has been fine about every one (afterwards, always nervous before) so I am pretty sure it will be OK. It would just be nice if she could manage her nerves more appropriately. I think the trouble is she bottles it all up and it all comes out at the 11th hour - until late yesterday evening she was talking excitedly about the day out.
On top of all this dd2 was returning to school after several days absence this morning - hearing dd1 rant set her off screaming she didn't want to go, it'll be like a new school, no one will talk to me etc. All nonsense, she has been desperate to get back and her classmates always greet her cheerfully. She just got infected by the mood in the house.
Anyway let's hope they both have a good day. (But it is sad they have to go through these pain barriers when both should be viewing their respective days with pleasure.....)
