We have a school meeting tomorrow with Bee's current school. We may well move her but before we do, we need to assess whether or not the current school is even vaguely of a mind to put into practice some of the social support mechanisms that will help her. She is 13 but emotionally about 8, she is physically big, not brilliant at personal care, not socially able and now has no friends at all (previous to being excluded recently she had a couple of insecure friendships, but friendships that satisfied some needs). She has sensory issues so tends to invade space, walk in the wrong zone, bump into people etc. Nobody will even give her the time of day and both her dad and I have witnessed some pretty uncharitable behaviour that none of the teaching staff seem to challenge sufficiently.
She is very, very unhappy and seems to be completely isolated/ ostracised.
We have tried this before, but are trying one last ditch attempt. My suggestions to them are:
Circle of Friends
Pupil mentor support
Peer support group
Structured play/ activities at break and lunchtime (not just going to the Student Support Centre to hang out with a TA)
Does anybody have any other ideas - I have asked for the latest PAC leaflet but am too late to get it by tomorrow I think. I have Louise Bomber's book and will take it along but they will come out with all the platitudes and will, of course, know better so it's pretty pointless. But we have to go through this one last time I think. And we still have an older son at the school so we can't burn any bridges! He's in Y10 so bridges can be burnt after he's gone but we don't want to move him - it's not good for him, but he has just about negotiated his way through it and has a small group of friends and a system that he now manages.
