Just need to vent................. School have decided that DS needs to go into school 10 minutes early each day to get him settled in First day today and the first thing they do is remind him how horribly Friday ended and the trouble he got into That's really going to make him feel wanted and happy then Dinky - off to walk the dogs and have a good mutter to myself!

Did you point that out to them in a very sarcastic tone? I wouldn't have been able to help myself!

Esty - no I didn't (not quick enough at that time of the day ) but I did think I would have to say it if I collected him and got "the look" across the playground from teacher followed by "can I have a word" Yesterday's greeting was a bit better and DS was over the moon today when he got to go and do little jobs with the caretaker Not sure that any of it is having any particular affect on DS's behaviour but time will tell! Oh don't underestimate the power of the caretaker ;-) If anyone will turn our children round it will be the caretaker. They're the ones that actually run the schools in most cases in my experience. Though seriously, a couple of weeks of your DS's esteem being raised by 'important jobs' will do no harm only good!

Oh yes the caretaker every day would be brilliant Unfortunately he is only having the caretaker on Wednesdays when the teaching staff have a meeting DS was very proud of having been the one to test the new hand dryer in the girls toilets His best day last week was................ Wednesday Wonder if they will notice and realise why!

It would be fab wouldn't it - we have done really successful work placements for some of our kids with the caretakers, they love it. Also the office staff are another good one - nothing like a bit of shredding to start the day!

DS's ideal school would be one where he learnt everything from the caretaker or every day at a field study centre like the one he went to for a couple of days a few weeks ago. He got soaking wet (the weather was awful) and spent a lot of time in a stream, in the woods and running wild in the meadow . But he learnt soooo much and was soooo happy and still hasn't stopped talking about the things he learnt. Couple that type of environment with the caretaker type "work" and he would be the happiest little boy ever
