Does anyone have any specific resources that they recommend?
I'm thinking of English, Maths and Science - and possibly History or Music. Are there such things as online tutors who will set and mark work?
I am unsure whether or not we will go down this route, but DS is not at school atm and while we wait for the outcome of his statement I want to try and find out what is out there.
Any ideas hugely appreciated!

You could probably enrol him on a distance learning course via a college. I know of home educators who have gone down that route for gcses. You may have to travel to the college for the final exam but the coursework is completed at home and sent to the tutor for marking. Google 'distance learning' and you should get plenty of hits. Pick a reputable college that have offering courses for a while then check that they accept applications for under 16s and enrol.

I am told kids should also be able to enrol at their local Adult ed college & do pArttjme GCSEs there. A friends son is doing his maths & English this wAy over 1 yr. He is 15. He has already done other GCSEs through other ways online.

There are also 'local interest' groups that may offer qualifications. I know of people who have taken GCSEs in drama via a local drama club.

The school I work in has a large and very busy adult ed section which offers loads of GCSE and other qualifications. Children up to 16 are allowed to attend any course but have to be supervised by an adult as the tutors are not necessarily qualified/ comfortable taking responsibility and I think we also have issues with liability insurance. The adult accompanying doesn't have to do anything - ours often just sit in the lounge and have a cuppa.

we have enrolled DD with the National Extension College for 2 IGSCEs Maths foundation (that is fairly basic and the maximum grade you can get is a C) and Child development. She hasn't done much work yet but we have been impressed with the materials and tutors. We paid for extra help from maths tutor and he has emailed regularly. Child development tutor contacted us as she hadn't received any assignments yet, which I appreciated! Both DD and I need outside motivation!
We also enrolled her with Catherine Mooney for an essay writing course and English language IGSCE. I have several friends who have used Catherine Mooney and recommend her. She is used to home educators.

With changing requirements for gcse diff subjects have diff requiremtns I know aqa English has become more difficult for home ed as cw no longer exists, there are now controlled conditions assignments... So you'd need an exam board approved person to I vigilante these... Might be worth checking a few diff exam boards for each subject and have a look at there course specs
