I had been dreading last weekend. It was DH's parents 50th wedding anniversary in a hired hall in a location that would take 5 hours to drive to. We had booked a hotel, a room for me and Lapwing and Peewit and a room for DH (to ensure he got some sleep to drive back). Lapwing and Peewit have never been to a large social event, would only know 6 of the assembled 60 or so people attending and have never been to a hotel and never slept in the same room as their mummy. WOW they were amazing, they packed their little rucksacks were singing and happy on the long journey, the were lovely at the actual event, and were yes over excited when we got back to the hotel, but with some patience they went to sleep. In the morning they both had a great time having a shower( first time) and then stuffing themselves with everything that looked yummy at the breakfast bar. Lapwing when we were leaving said she was missing home and wanted to go home now....Peewit said he wanted to stay in the hotel for 2 weeks and it was the best hotel ever...... it was out first little family break and it was lovely......I know things will always be up and down, but the ups are worth remembering.

Another first for the Bird Family memory bank. Glad it was such a success. My DD's loved staying in Hotels or mainly Motels on our way to and from our house in France. They loved the family rooms where the kids bedroom was up on a mezzanine level over the bathroom, while mum and dad were downstairs and used to love giggling telling us they could still see our TV. Happy Days - Enjoy.

I love it! It brings back memories of my first stay at a hotel with my parents. Like your kids, it was my first experience of a shower. Another good memory in the bank!
All the best,
Corkwing

Oh, that is really lovely, especially after the feelings Lapwing has been experiencing over the last months, wonderful.
(and it's lovely to hear some of the fond memories of others too) x
