Fuming.com!!
We have received a copy of a letter from AD's psychiatrist setting out her diagnoses. We are concerned that he is basing his decisions solely on her self-reports (she has a history of lying and presenting with symptoms she has seen in others) rather than relying on her observable behaviours. But what has angered us in particular is his claim that AD does not have an attachment disorder as such. Also (wait for it) that she has some residual attachment to her birth family and at present her attachment to her adoptive family is a little ambivalent.
HE is clearly not using "attachment" in its clinical sense, here. Yes, she has some "attachment" to her birth family (if we use the word in the everyday sense - i.e. in the same way as I am attached to my cat). But it is more that she is interested in them and has some idealistic notion of them.
I want to find a source (preferably an academic one) that details the symptoms of attachment disorder and one that sets out the other types of problem behaviours seen in adopted teens - the "push-me/pull-me" ones for example (which AD is clearly displaying).
Can anyone help?

Someone posted this link somewhere a while ago and I bookmarked it. Is this any use? Maybe go to the website and contact them for more info? Surely they would know of some good sources (well, hopefully!) www.attachmentdisordermaryland.com/functioning.pdf

Not surprised you are fuming JM and this is from a so-called professional who should know better!! The link Flutterby has given is good and if you have a look on our Resources Board under Attachment there are other links there that might be useful. Hugs xx

Fantastic! Could this list be transferred to the resources? It would be great to have them there. Many of us might need them later!
