Having to revisit all of this again as despite our dd's progress she will remain very vulnerable financially etc and being the youngest and having lost all but one of my sibs - we don't have anyone to really delegate this to within family.
Anyone else late given this some thought and put anything in place - it was a minefield last time round and legislation keeps changing - have been reading up on the very useful mencap site as they have good resources but wondered if anyone else could share their thoughts as have brain ache trying to think how best to protect her!

My understanding is get it put into a trust with some trusted Powers of attorney chosen by yourself. That way benefits can't be reduced as she has nooney in her own right but the PoA can give money as and when. Sure Mencap suggested this.

I have a friend who is PoA of mine. We are just discussing getting PoA for eldest son now so that if anything happens to me he is covered.

Doh - NAS hadn't occurred to me PT even though it should have been my first thought really as dd has many autistic traits - so thanks very much for the reminder and will be really interested in your feedback as really need to think that someone will be on board that gets her strengths and vulnerabilities - I know friends and family simply don't as she can mostly present as capable and she is pretty adept at covering up her weaknesses and can be too stubborn to ask for help - at least from the right people.... We did set up a trust previously but looking at what we set up then it doesn't really reflect her needs now and also we really want to ensure there are sufficient checks and balances on the trustees/attorneys etc as one hears increasingly of folk filling their pockets at the vulnerable persons expense. There was even a case of a probate officer filling his pockets recently so would obviously like to get this reviewed as best we can. Good to know another organisation is doing these legal road shows as I found the mencap one really helpful many many moons ago but the next one is ages away and really have to get this sorted for my peace of mind. Another birthday looming is also making dh and I want to get things straighter and sorted so she has less to deal with as and when - so have started a brutal clear out too - not that we are "stuff" people but there just seems to be a lot of stuff that has just gotta go! Dreading the attic as a lot of memories up there....
