Hi Those of you that know me from the other place know that EJ has a diagnosis of complex trauma, conduct disorder and ADHD - all diagnosed by Great Ormaond Street CAMHS about 18 months ago. It took over 10 months for a local camhs team to reassess GOS's assessment of EJ and in the summer hols EJ and I went to discuss the ADHD meds that we are going to try ( I honestly think and have thought for the last 10yrs that he really does not have ADHD - I believe it is all trauma related). Well now we are on the count down to starting - Pre questionnaires have gone to school today and meds start on Sunday - wish me luck - when we went to local CAMHS to `discuss` the adhd and meds, EJ showed his sense of humour by telling the psych that it smelt in the room - `it smells of bullcarp` - she did laugh but not 2 mins later the anixiety had got to him and he did a runner - missing for over an hour and a half. Best bit of that for me was that I had the pleasure of asking the head honcho in the office for a contact no from the office for the police in case he wasn't found. She did not understand what I was asking, so made it abundantly clear that as this was the last place he had been seen, the boys in blue would have to search the place from top to bottom - loved the look of horror on her face.

I personally feel that dd does not have ADHD as the pediatrician at the time would not accept the diagnosis of her therapist and later from Family Futures of her attachment issues. However she does take meds for ADHD t (not Ritalin based drugs)as it does take the edge of her behavior and you know when she is due more meds. She still needs to be therapeutically parented and is still an angry adult and it is attachment disorder no question about it.yes ADHD may be a part of it but is not the overriding factor..
ds2 has ADHD as part of his complex needs and does not have the issues of dd.
good luck with the meds. I hope it helps you all

Well, day 1 of meds - took 15 mins of winging, moaning, `I don't have adhd, I don't need meds and you can't make me` type chat. Did take then said `i won't take any more, so don't bother trying to get me to take any more`. If only - 1 massive dose of methlyphenidate to kill him - then he would not have ADHD anymore - hmm now there's a thought Jellies

That was fun - NOT. Some other stuff going on in the jellies household that are set to rock our usual (NOT) otherwise calm and peaceful existence ! But amidst the `I am not coming off x box, I will get effing dressed when I want to, not eat my breakfast and you can't make me carp, he did take day 2 of meds - did a runner from the taxi but star taxi driver calmed him down and got him to school. Love that man. Interesting how perseptive EJ is though about his ADHD and whether he has actually got it - completed his pre med assessment very accurately and yet he still says he does not have a problem . Bless - here's hoping that the next 4 weeks of meds happens.
