That's pretty much it, I think. The only thing I would bear in mind is at the mo LO is still officially looked after, so if you have any concerns at all about support you may need in the future, then now is the time to address this and have the support plan re-written. Social services still have a duty of care now, but once the adoption order is granted, then despite promises to the opposite you may find yourself pretty much on your own.

If you haven't got your life story book yet, have you signed the letter box agreement? If not you need that sorted.

Guardian's report if there is one - useful as it can give clear reasons as to why they couldn't live with birth family and why adoption was chosen for them (which may be more useful than a possibly poorly written later life letter), FC logs from her time in care - helpful especially to describe what behaviours were like when in FC and also what type of activities they did which is nice later on to help with gentle life story work.
Also, adoption support plan so you know what is a clear entitlement for ongoing support and what you will need to go through an assessment process for.
Asking for a 'goodbye' letter/card from her social worker or anyone who has been involved with her might be good. Again, not necessarily for now but maybe later - to show people were thinking of her and to show that there were goodbyes that were properly managed (instead of all her other losses that probably weren't!)

Thanks for your help everyone. Gratefully appreciated.

No, it's not. It's a document outlining exactly how the letterbox is going to work - what you'll do, when you'll do it, what BP's will do and when etc. Lets everyone know what the rules and restrictions are, and then everyone knows where they stand, so 12 months down the line neither you are BP's are saying, "but hang on, I thought it was going to happen to happen x way and now you're telling me y?" You and whichever birth family members you are writing to agree to the rules and restrictions and timings and so on that are in the agreement, and so theoretically you all start letterbox on the same page My letterbox agreement with DD2's mum covered things like what months I would send letters and what months she would send them back, how she would sign the letters to DD and I, when she could send cards, etc etc So yours could cover things like - how BP's will sign off, who they will write to, whether photos are to be included or not, whether cards can be sent or not, other important provisos eg. if a photo is put onto Facebook, no more photos will be sent.

We managed to get filial therapy training out of our LA after the adoption order, because they had admitted in writing that therapy would be needed in the future. Make sure you get that support plan re-written. xxx D
