Hi
i am a secondary school teacher, and adoptive parent, and have the opportunity to possibly get involved in working with LAC and adopted children in my school to support them directly. I have been given an empty page upon which to make a proposal, and together with the pupil premium coming in for April, there is a good chance we could make a difference to our pupils in terms of both their social and academic progress.
So, if your school was about to get £1,900 for your child, how would you like to see it spent? I have searched the internet for ideas, and haven't come up with much so far.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Sorry to hijack your thread but.... My two are about to leave the school that applied in the census ( last week) for the funds....
Am horrified to discover that the old school will prolly get to keep the money
Even tho boys will be leaving now ( January ) & the money isn't paid until April!!!
Pas are chasing it as are the new school... But it is a 'snapshot' apparently of things on a single day..... After all our hassle I will have a blue fit if the old school who have caused all of our troubles do indeed get to keep it.... Seems totally bonkers coz they will have left months before it is paid.... & it is after all sposed to be trackable & how it benefits the ' qualifying ' children.....
£3.800 is a lot of money IMHO....
Any views greatfully received....
Thanx xx

Unfortunately they are likely to keep it unless they hand it over voluntarily. Pp and head count is done once a year and that determines the school's funding - so for example following our outstanding Ofsted at Easter we had 70 new admissions, many with fsm or sen, but the money for a full year April to April remained with their previous schools (45 of them came from the same school!)

Moo, we had a similar thing when AS came home and moved school with the pupil premium. His new head teacher wrote to the old head teacher that due to intros he had only been at his old school 5 days after the cenus date and left before the money was paid. The old school would not release the money . The school said it is swings and roundabout as they sometimes have children leave mid term when they have had the money. I was really angry with his old school gggrrrrrr

I have asked for the money to be spend at lunchtimes for my AS who struggles with the unstructured playtime. We are hopeful that they will spilt the lunchtime into 3 x 20min sessions. The first one being sports of jumping, sprinting etc that is supervised and facilitated, then lunch then 20mins of free play with his friends. Others have suggested attachment training for the whole school, small nurture work, 1:1 help.

O.k. This is grim news Seems so unfair....
If I can't get it allocated to the new school I still will have the last word......
Old school havn't sent off the new birth cert post order ( they didn't think they needed it even tho I told them & offered them it ) they have now asked me for it... ( they have never seen it )Head said it wouldn't be paid without it.... So I deffo will not be providing it
I will be sooo If we lose £3.800 for the whole year .....

Moo, are they saying that the adoption order needs to be sent to dfe? I didn't want school to copy ours, but took copies in for them to see?
Our school's (special) pp is spent on a variety of things, incl extra staff, library books and therapy. We really struggle with maintaining friendships out of school (the catchment is very wide and not all parents are interested in making playdates). I asked for our extra money to be spent on an after school club for my girls and their peers. It needs to be free, and as our pupils mostly get transport I want transport provided for those who wouldn't attend if parents couldn't collect their kids.

Apparently the l/a ( school admissions etc not ss ) need to have sight of the adoption order or new birth certificate issued after the order.... Our School head said a copy was good enough.... Had got boys certs copied to take in (but won't now ) as head said they would not get the funds from la if information not proven....
So don't know what your school or la will do thought it was the ' rule ' nationwide iykwim.... Good Luck.....

As to how it should be spent... Good question.... Boys school ( old) are adamant that they can spend it how they like.... They would certainly not be asking me how & what we would like it spent on....
Like us all money for school trips & camps are really hard to find for me.... I was intending to say please take the money for this from the £1.900!!! Lots of the monies collected for school trips is so called ' voluntary contribution only ' so I was quite looking forward to using that one & not feeling guilty if I didn't ' Voluntarily contribute..... '
But if we can't get it to new school I will be raiding housekeeping as ever!!

In our LA this money is only released termly and if a child transfers to another school then the new school receives any funding (including Statement funds) - but we do a termly census now not the annual one of a few years ago.

We also do a termly census. I don't know when the money follows through though.

This confirms my suspicions- DS school were very slow in reacting to certain things that needed doing, until the evening of the 16th Jan! So now it doesn't matter if he does leave soon, they've got the money any way.

I was wondering what could meaningfully be 'bought' for £1900 for a year... If its looking at 1-1 support it doesn't actually buy that much time over the course of a year, not with trained professionals. it doesn't cover meaningful training for enough staff members working with a child, ESP at secondary with a lot of different teachers. What are people suggesting/ hoping will be done with theirs?

I've just realised that sounded really whiny abd ungrateful, I don't mean it that way, all funding, ESP at the moment where other funds are being cut is great... I'm genuinely interested in how people will use the money in a way they feel will be most useful

Are people getting involved in how the money is spent, because at my DS's school I certainly have been given the impression that it's nothing to do with me. Immensely annoying since I was the one who pointed then in its direction-they had no idea it was available.
