For the first time I'm starting to get irritated with Simba's school about something. At his annual reviewing December I raised an issue about his repetitive chanting, squeaking, screeching which had been growing in volume, frequency, time and more often outside the house. They didnt want to discuss it at the review so I had a follow up meeting with the head last week. Well timed because if I thought it was bad before Christmas, it has reached epic proportions over the last few weekends. The head even commented on how exhausted I looked, so I must have looked dreadful because normally when I'm feeling tired or ill people comment on how well I'm looking!
anyway she decides to give me a 'strategy' to try and break into the behaviour. I now have an egg timer, when he starts I'm supposed to show it to him, ask him to talk nicely and by the time it's run through he is supposed to be quiet. I had doubts but said I would give it a go. He just thinks it's funny, I can't really do it outside so it's hard to be consistent. I gave this as feedback to her yesterday and today I have a note back saying essentially persevere, he needs to learn to behave appropriately in all situations
yes I know , that's why I raised it in the first place, but it's not really practical to whip out an egg timer when I've got a bag of shopping in each hand, or when we are in swimming pool, or when I'm trying to get him across busy roads, or when he's way ahead on his scooter or bike and I can't get his attention to focus on a flipping egg timer. It's had enough when we are in the house.
i think I'm going to have to push for some assessments, his statement was done in his home LEA, the new education officer was very dismissive of my views, his teacher doesn't think he is ASD, but when I pointed out how many boxes he ticks she comes back with well I'm not a diagnostician. Not sure they will take things seriously without their own assessments but also not sure they will do them if I ask
