Says ds out of the blue last night! do you not, says I. Well I wonder who I am then. i wandered around feeling my arms and legs saying, hmmm I feel like your mummy. Cue much giggling from ds! ok mummy, you are really. they have it all going on in their heads don't they? I'm glad he felt he could say it though, opens the door for exploring I guess

Well done Sooz , I'm not sure I would handle it so calmly. As you say, leaves the door open for him to explore his feelings safely with you.

My younger ds has always said similar things, like "where is my mummy" when she knows I am there and "I want to go home" when we are home. But always when she is angry with me (easily gets angry). I do use it sometimes to talk over her life story. But I think it is also a way of asking for comfort from me - sort of emotional blackmail. However it doesn't sound like your ds said it in this way. Maybe he can't think how to broach the subject? Humour is great but he may need a bit more?

He is due to start life story work in the next couple of months, I asked for it as I think he needs someone else, other than me, to let stuff out to. It was due to start next week but I've had to put it back as I won't be able to get him there for a while. I think he's ready for it. X

They do have such a lot in their heads, sounds like you handled it really well though, they are lucky to have such an attuned mummy

I think you handled it very well
I remember my girls whenever they were sad they would always say "I'm missing mummy xxxx" Until one day I was sad about something and they asked me what was wrong and I said "I'm missing mummy xxxx" For a moment they were taken a back and then both laughed. Laughter is the best medicine and helps to build bridges.
