Last night there was a man outside our house when we came home who appeared to be very high from drugs and alcohol. He was very threatening, he tried to get into the car and was shouting a lot. I ended up driving around the block and calling the police. dS who is 10 was very upset and scarred. The police were great when they came and reassured ds. He asked why the man behaved in the way he did and explained it was because of the drugs. We then had a long conversation about his BF and the drugs he took as DS remembers this. I was pleased that DS was able to show his feelings and could open up about things he had seen while with BF. Not the best end to Boxing Day but able to have a positive out of a difficult situation.

I think it is really good that he opened up in this way. Pleased that the police dealt with the situation well, too.

Very frightening for your DS and you...but yes the positive is that it has allowed your DS talk about past feelings and memories, sometimes its hard to bring up the past with our LO's especially if it seems they are settled, but it is better for them to talk about it, and the fact there was a positive safe outcome provided by you and the police to this scary experience has to be good on so many levels. Although scary...maybe a blessing, as they say, in disguise. best wishes to you and ds ....

As you said not a nice end to Boxing Day, but the positives are good.
DS felt able to share his experience and worries with you which is good. and also you handled it well, rang the police, stayed calm (I assume), and DS can see that you kept him safe and that will mean a lot to him, so all in all, a good result to a scary situation.
Well done you.Hope the rest of your hols are less eventful.
