Grrr Have been trying and failing to get a health visitor for curious george ever since he came home, health centre keeps taking my details and nothing ever comes of it .
Then we take curious george into out of hours then a and e due to illness and we have a hundred missed calls from health centre trying to track us down.
I identify number and phone them back answer all their questions and they say they must assign a hv and visit immediately... I say great as we have a lac review end of jan and want to put in for ao after that and la needs to have hc report... They say we should get a visit in March?' !
Anyone else had hv issues?

You are spot on... Poor poor show h/v...
You will get the last word tho chotimonkey as you say a h/v report review will have to be done before order & if they havn't visited before they will get their knuckles rapped!!! ( mind you baa & skweek's was done from memory!!) yep I know I was shocked too Think it might have been coz they had called round & done a visit or few.....
Keep us posted these 'mad' stories need telling!!

contact your social worker, or better the child's social worker. health visitors have a statutory duty, as do most professionals involved in child related services, to visit looked after children and to wait til march for a visit, particularly when curious George has been to a & e is unacceptable. a significant number of the children in care are there because vigilent health visitors picked up on difficulties in the first instance (not suggesting you have problems!!) and they do that becoz of their duty of care. have you tried visiting the local health clinic for a weigh in? our health visitors run weekly weigh in clinics and there is always at least one HV on duty there for that. might be worth that approach too even if CG is a little old for clinic in the normal way, they weigh children under 5 in my clinic (mostly pre school). but failing the clinic approach definitely contact the sw. when children move on to adoption the LA contact the local health visitors to give them a heads up that a looked after child is in their area and good practice is to visit.

(((choti and curious George)))
Sorry to hear LO hasn't been well and hope he's on the mend.
Sure you all didn't need that at the moment...
That sounds rubbish of HVs...I rang lady who was HV for my older two this week just to let her know new LO had moved in. She's sent for notes straight away and wanted to know if first week in Jan was okay to visit and most apologetic that was 2 weeks away (!) so sound like it is very variable. Have you tried HV for your DD? Might be easier if they know you already... Do you HVs run a weighing clinic? Our have one you can just turn up for and might be an easier way to see HV than waiting for one to come out. Sorry, you have probably tried all this.... Hope you get a visit soon and LO is better. OSx

Oh it's a joke, about a year in both times I got a call from the HV... at that point both times I declined- thought I've managed without you so far so will leave it at that.
Spoke to my GP who chased for me but I just think they are so busy that if it's not a referal from birth things get held up.
First time round the call that finally came was asking to speak to Potatoes BM.... as you can imagine I gave them a rocket.......
LAC officer not at all daunted, he could see all was well and just needed to hear that LO had met the GP which she had. I reassured him that we have an excellent Practise nurse who is super with LO's.
Good luck x

Just a thought..
Does your children's centre have a baby clinic/ hv session? That would also be a good way to contact them.
I am very lucky, our HV has been amazing and very supportive. She has come to all Lac reviews plus we have had other visits on top of that.
But as other posts have said, they have a duty of care and they should be knocking on your door...
Goodluck. xx

Not good. Our HV was in contact within a week of placement. Ok it did help that she had been Sqk's HV before as FC lives in same town as us - and one HV covers entire place. She us also reading up on adoption as she is getting more and more adopted kids (I personally know 4 locally including Sqk)

Thanks rveryone... We have one visiting in early jan now, to be honest if we didn't need them for the lac review and ao we wouldn't bother... They've been no actual help so far... Although she's going to do howlers 2 year checks when she visits curious george, so at least I don't have to take all the monkeys down to clinic to pick up some new and interesting winter virus! What are they supposed to do... We do height and weight anyway at home and plot them in the red books to make sure percentiles tarry and know when jabs/ checks are due... They've always been nice but ineffective

As Toko says I think it's home visit to mainly check out home environment..... Not really req for you!!
But this one visit will be enough I think... Like us it gives them the starting point for any reports (lac review) & for panel.... As usual it is only a ss paper moving project....
Well done for sorting them!!!

a friend of mine, a well paid, well educated, very middle class lady, psychologist by trade was 'picked up' by hv. health visitors picked up that she had severe post natal depression (becoz she didn't volunteer this information to other health professionals). children were being neglected to a degree, but becoz of the hv's intervention she was then able to access help at sure start (becoz they referred her and sure start then intervened). ss were made aware but didn't need to intervene. but without the hv she could have ended up with severely neglected children, and having ss intervention. just a point really that hv's don't aim themselves at particular social groups. they aim at them all becoz problems in the home when children are young cover every social group, including adopters, and how many on adoption forums have ended up with post adoption depression and needed help from various different agencies? (not meant as a dig at anyone on here, just an observation really).

I had a few issues with HV initially. LO's SW phoned the HV and funnily enough I had a phone call the same day and home visit arranged!!! But think I was lucky with on the ball SW. SW just made it clear that as LO LAC (at that time), HV had duty to visit!
