For anyone battling to get their child a place at a therapeutic school some encouragement not to give up. Granted Monkey Boy is now in the final half term of year 10 but we have just secured him an LA funded place at a small, local therapeutic school for children who have experienced trauma through bullying at school or abuse/neglect in their early years. It's a 20 minute drive away, less on public transport. There are just 20 pupils in the whole school. He can study up to 5 subjects at GCSE level and can pretty much choose whatever he wants and stay working at that level until he is 18. There is weekly therapy, daily social re-integration work and he will learn 1:1. The school day is short - they finish at 2.30pm and there is no homework as independent learning is built into the school day. He has not been to his current school since before Easter and insisted on burning his uniform yesterday. So looks like we will have a struggle to make this half term constructive but it feels like there is hope.
Meanwhile Jealous Dog having miraculously passed 5 GCSEs as been signed off college early because he has already achieved passes and merits in everything. He has a job interview this evening and he's suddenly become confident using the public transport.
Good to see some fruit from our toils!
It's still a nightmare having MB home all the time as he is very needy and has no ability to wait for anything. Jealous Dog is still disorganised and shy but 2 years ago things seemed a lot more bleak.
Keep going people!
