Is anyone managing a structure with their teen throughout this. Ds does very little of the work teachers set him. He’s at high school and going into his most important year yet, fourth year. I’m doing my best to get him to work on it while at the same time trying to lay off and let him decide what and when it gets done. But it isn’t. DH is working from home and not getting involved in anything other than his own work. Am I fighting a losing battle or is there a way I can at least encourage some of it to get done? I just don’t want him having a hard time catching up this year ahead.

Hey treetop I think baa & your ds are the same age 😳
I have only got mine doing their favourite subjects... both are born mathematicians so lots of maths has been done... baa taking geography, so he does set work but no history ( mystery why it has been set regardless tbh) science a bit of a challenge too...Art & Pe science largely ignored....
I have found lie ins are important, so our routine today involved 12-2pm... hour off tractor driving outside animal based chores fun activities (wow the weather has been amazing)... then English dramas on tv 3.15 -5pm... Tomorrow it will be drama first... then geog, science or just good old maths... but wow oh wow it has been so hard wrestling with 2 not wanting to do school stuff, tempers etc... It is so not my job I refuse to live with them hating me making them do it... so hard as the stuff is miles & miles from what I had to study for my O levels .. By wednesday we may need a day off!! 😈
Checked english curriculum & we watch many peroid dramas & Austen books on film... both dislike reading & period works even shakespear... so my mission has been sourcing them & making them watch on tv... popcorn & sweet things have helped loads 😤 ... It has been tuff as single mum I have to be able to live with them too so picking battles has been the most important ever.... I do fear such a long time without formal education (esp as baa has btech exams next Feb & 6 months coursework lost) ....
But I am with you it feels like pushing treacle uphill 😵 it is now 10 weeks for us & boys are sooooo bored & fedup September is forever away 😲 fixing a routine is sooo hard... well sticking to it anyway xxx
We in my county thus far have been largely spared but we are all terrified if folk travel & visit from hard hit areas we will have a huge spike here... boys are aware & it is not helping them plan meeting up with friends in the months to come... miserable boys feeling trapped 😷😷😷
Sending hugs... hang in xx hth xx

From my vantage point at the DfE and various forums, I think this is very common. Many children will need to catch up, I think adjustments will be made to the curriculum.
Sadly as a year 11 who should be in week 2 of GCSEs we have a big fat zero, no learning, nothing to focus on at all. Its a long time till September
You don't want the Third Amigo yet then Moo ?

No sadly not, certainly till after christmas 😳
Things here very very low key, surprisingly no acknowledgments from London but here very very low infections....
All visits to friends even in county still not happening, local gvmt & news warning of peak or a spike that still has not happened yet here... we naturally social distance, so much open green space! 😮
Boys going crazy 10 weeks in no end in sight.... September forever away....
Stay well all xx
