Hi I am just looking on the good old internet on this subject
What are your experiences ?
Eldest never had a sweet tooth when he was younger. I can think of many years when we'd find an uneaten Easter egg(s) as we approached the following Easter ! He would eat them but never actively sought out sweets or chocolate or sweet drinks. As we approach his 13 birthday it is now totally different. He denies it but has stolen and eaten one of his brothers eggs. I have just been looking for the scissors in his room and found wrappers of sweets he bought for the family for Easter. Adds many teaspoons of sugar to his tea and hot chocolate, craves high sugar cereal.
I no longer buy biscuits or cakes etc. This was because I am pilling on the pounds
Meltdown last night after we said no to another Easter egg.
So any experience of too much sugar and poor behaviour ?

oh yes
if its there he will eat it, he has been known to get through 6 kitkats in 30 minutes, ie the time he was at home alone before I got in from work. He has stolen money from me to buy sweets, We have huge arguments about what he buys at school, I now hide the biscuits at home and deal them one a day
definitely got worse over the last 18 months.
He has a huge appetite in general, puts away more food than I do

Yes, big sugar cravings here. I've had to stop buying completely, if it's n the cupboard he wants it, can't let it go. It's a worry.
We've worked on regulating what he has, he seems happy to accept he can have treats when out, but he has to choose. He can gave a milkshake or a dessert but not both. He will seek out sugar free drinks now, but fizzy drinks are rare here anyway.
We've talked about what you put in and what you burn off, I've explained why and how we need to regulate. I think it's something he's going to struggle with and my aim is to help him understand so he'll hopefully make better choices when older. He's getting signed up for the gym next month!

at least at the moment Simba is still reasonably active, and does some sport most days, getting harder to get him out at the weekends though
teeth are my biggest worry

timely articles on the BBC. For lunch I have left over store bought pizza ! Well aware of the fat content but YIKES the sugar content ! first link is why is sugar addictive & second shops in hospitals agree to only sell low sugar drinks. Lots of useful info in both www.bbc.co.uk/science/0/21835302www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39660747
