So for the last 2 years, since Little Will came home, the longest I have been apart from him is going to be about 10 hours, and never overnight. In fact for the last couple of months or so I have had to be with him as he goes to sleep and co-sleep as bedtimes were becoming a battle which didn't need to be fought. This has left me totally exhausted but it has definitely been calmer at home.
Over the last week we have had some pretty major achievements. For his birthday he helped design his bedroom, and we have decorated it and built the furniture, he also got degus which live in a cage in his bedroom, and suddenly he can stay in his room and I am sure the company of the degus, (which he has named Gandalf, Merry and Pippin) have been instrumental in this change. His 'bad dreams' are almost non-existent now and bedtimes have been less of a battle.
As of this time I haven't seen him for 30 hours (and yes I am counting!) as he is on a 2-night residential trip with school, he really wanted to go and I have completely supported this as have school. There are some great photos of happy children on Twitter, of course Little Will isn’t included, and so I am guessing he is having a good time. Batman Bear had lots of extra cuddles and kisses before they went so that he could have a top-up as I am not there.
How am I spending this time off? I am catching up with work and some housework, sitting on the sofa watching grown up TV and feeling like I am in an alternate universe. I can’t do too much as there are no guarantees he will cope with a 2nd night, but however it pans out I am so proud of his spirit.
