Anyone’s LO done a Qb test for ADHD? My boy had ADHD assessment today but was unable to do the Qbtest. I’m not sure what happened as the psychologist took him in on his own (standard practice) but I think he just refused...

He went in with the psychologist on his own, so we have no idea what was said to him and he won’t talk about it. She said she’d meet with the neurodevelopmental team and we should hear something in a couple of weeks. She wasn’t able to say whether he’d be required to try to do the test again.
He was very wired and stressed afterwards. We had massive kick back at home. He pulled the radiator off his wall again. Smashing ceramic bowls/ glass/ punching me in the face twice at bath time as I was trying to turn the taps the right way before the bathroom got flooded again. Trying to smash his bedroom window. Urinating on sofa. I feel so sorry for him and us. He must be terrified. He’s asleep now but it’s very sad.
Feel drained. Lots of clearing up to do, trying not to cut ourselves on the debris.

I'm sorry, no experience of this particular test - but plenty of experience with children refusing to co-operate with other testing! Usually it isn't necessarily re done but the refusal and the behaviour during that refusal is used to form an opinion or conclusion of its own. It possibly depends on the trauma expertise of the practitioner - one of mine was labelled as Dyslexic (when he wasn't) simply because he didn't answer the phonic questions within the time frame allowed. They allowed only verbal answers and he is a selective mute.
I am so sorry you are still having to weather such awful behaviour at home; I hope that information is allowed to be part of the assessment report too.
Are you actually getting therapeutic support yet or are these assessments being completed first? I hope it's the former.
I am lucky to have not lived with that level of violence for several years now but I remember how traumatic it is for all involved so my thoughts are with you.

Scaredycats, not much to add but did not want to read and run.
Do you think therapy is making things worse before they can get better or is it just triggering even more?
Thinking of you xxx

Dear Scardeycats, That sounds awful. He must have been as you say terrified. I do feel that a parent should either have been allowed in with him, or at least the parent de briefed afterwards so you know what happened. The whole experience sounds very un-empowering for the parent and clearly far too overwhelming for the child. I feel quite cross on your behalf that it was handled so clumsily. Hope things have calmed a little?

Hi guys, thanks as always for the support. I was able to have de-brief with the mental health nurse in charge of CatBoy’s case and CAMHS have given an ADHD diagnosis. They want to focus on trying to help treat this with meds first before looking at any other possible coexisting conditions eg ODD, tics, anxiety etc... She said that focusing on helping the ADHD would hopefully alleviate the other challenging/ difficult behaviours as well, like the violence, aggression, shouting, noises, destruction, problems accessing learning etc... We are having support re therapeutic parenting etc via a lengthy NVR course. It is good and the therapist is very experienced and useful. We are stressed and exhausted though...
