We were suposed to go to a low key wedding ceremony today. Won't happen now because Butterfly is insisting on 'washing' her hair her way. I knew we would get a meltdown if I insisted she wash it with my help in the shower, very long, lovely hair, but certainly unmanageable for a 7-year- old. She is still trying to wedge her head under the tap of the basisn - it's too big, so she is only putting a few drops of water on it and has now proceeded to squeeze half a bottle of shampoo onto it. I am writing this because its the best way to calm down myself. I know, if I had insisted on doing this my way, it would have lead to disaster. Her way, there won't be time to get ready in time to make it to the ceremony due to me having to undo all she did and trying for both of us to be ready. So we will get a meltdown about this too. Can't win. Some days just have to be written off...

Lots of love on a tough day... we’ve just managed to persuade squirrel (8) to cut her waist length hair to shoulder length... control issues diverted to other areas but they take up less time... anyway you could catch her in a calm Moment and approach a hair cut. Sorry you missed your wedding

The idea of shorter hair is quite appealing, but I can't see it happen any time soon. Had a very up and down day. Looks like Butterfly has been processing lots of grief and life story again, which has stirred things up. Her understanding is somewhat sketchy and every time she puts important links together it causes a lot of pain, which comes out explosively. She somehow thought her birth parents were some kind of bad foster carers and she only realized last night who they actually were. Sh normally goes to bed really early, but tonight I've read stories to her for a full hour and she's been getting out of bed lots of times. So I've popped the dog in her bed now in the hope the two will keep each other company.

Sounds like a tough day. Sympathise with the long hair.,our dd has always had long hair and it caused so many problems.Sounds like you need some time for you if she has finally settled.

Just catching up too. Hair a problem here too! Many tears and tantrums over the tears, exacerbated by prolonged bouts of head lice, especially for youngest.
We are finally (temporarily?) in a good hair place. Dd1 has very long dyed hair which tangles easily since she lies in bed a lot. However she does now wash it without my help (at 18 she's been able to physically do that for years but emotionally she wouldn't always) and has let me dry brush out tangles with only minor wincing.
And dd2 has had her very easily tangled hair cut to collar length. I was reluctant for her to do it as I wasn't sure it would suit her but she was very firm about what she wanted and it looks fab. Doing all her own hair washing at last (14 now)!

Oh god - the damn hair - I was reported to SS because my DD had head lice and trying to wash and do her hair was like throwing a match into petrol - it would end up with the police having to attend if I forced the issue - then she cut it all off herself one day - I found two bunches crawling with lice lying on the floor!
You have my sympathy

Very similar story re nits here, not reported to SS but always the worry that hairdresser would refuse to continue cutting and announce loudly why to the shop, as it had happened on several occasions. AD had nits for years in fact for the whole of the time in her first school. She has very thick wiry hair and ADHD (undiagnosed / treated at the time) and could never tolerate the treatment being completed. I remember washing my own hair and combing it and nits falling out into the bath as at that age its impossible to not have direct contact of heads!
